Hey guys,

I'm looking for 1-3 people who can help test an update wine wrapper. It is going along with a new core that is being released for the GPU2 nvidia client. The Stanford guys have been really nice and given us a heads up, and we've got two possible fixes with the wrapper. One implements only the needed new functions, and it's been reported to work by one person. The other is a complete wrapper and implements all the functions of CUDA, but has not been successful yet.

The core being still in beta though, I can't release the core to the wild, so if you are interested, please just pm me, and I'll send you the link for the wrapper and the core.

I don't want to post the wrappers publicly yet (although they are available) because I'm not 100% if they work or if there is any regressions yet.

Thanks

I would be willing to give it a shot I am also FAH betatester so I have access to the beta cores. I will have to update my nvidia driver since I am currently only using 180.27 assuming your beta wrappers are not throttled. I had been using the second generation throttled wrapper on my Shuttle with its 8800gt 512mb using Mepis 8 as the os.

A new GPU2 core, Core 14, is scheduled for release on March 2. The current CUDA wrapper used in Linux/WINE GPU2 folding does not work with this new core. If you are assigned a Core 14 WU, your client will report an immediate Early Unit End (EUE). The client may reattempt another Core 14 WU, resulting in another EUE; if this cycle continues, the client will automatically shut down for 24 hours. The developers of the CUDA wrapper have been notified of the change and may release an updated wrapper file -- this page will be updated to include the new wrapper if/when it appears.

For more info, see the announcement from Pande Group.

Looks like there working on getting it Public very soon now

I truly think the new wrapper for GPU2 still needs the delay the non delay wrapper seems to be working pretty well however without the delay even using the latest nvidia drivers 180.35 if you are also running a smp client or two you will see a substantial hit on the smp performance. Its not as bad as the old gen 1 to gen 2 wrapper but I have noticed about a 1 min increase on step times on common a2 projects between the old gen 2 wrapper and the new beta wrapper without the delay timer. Its common to see a core 14 cpu spike up into the 50% range and then back down to 1-3% with occasional spikes up to close to 100%. Also these new core 14 projects are not as good ppd wise as the older projects my 8800gt 512mb card with shaders at 1728 only averages about 3900ppd

We've made a decision as group, and we are calling the new wrapper 2.1, it's got a built in delay and added support for the needed CUDA functions. The wrapper you were testing, as been frozen, and it's the wrapper that is "complete" and follows the specs to a T. The delay, aka throttling is a hack, so we have split the wrappers in two. One is a folding wrapper, with built in delay. The second is a pure by the book wrapper for anything else that uses CUDA.

Ok well when I get home I think I will switch to the wrapper with the delay to see if it brings my smp client back to previous levels or at least close.
