View Full Version : duron fsb...
ok, i have a duron with a spitfire core and an asus a7v 266-e motherboard. should the duron run at 200mhz fsb, or does the spitfire core limit it to 100mhz fsb? im just curious cuz in my bios it says 100mhz as i overclock it. right now i have it at 113, so does that make it at 226????

Yes, it is double the speed, so 113 would be 226.
Default is 100/200...
You've got it right. The Duron ships with 100mhz bus. But the bus uses a double data rate, so it's roughly equivalent to a 200mhz bus. So that's of course what they advertise.
If you've got the bus at 113, that's the equivalent of 226.

ok, then shouldnt it say 200fsb in the bios, or will it say 100? thats what im confused on right now.

It is just understood that when the bios says 100, the resulting mhz will be 200, as nihili mention above. Don't worry, when it says 100, you are at the default, anything higher is an overclock...
thank you guyz very much. this whole thing has been bugging me for a few days. thanks again
Btw, if you've got that Duron unlocked, you should be able to get a nice little overclock by setting the fsb to 133 and the multiplier at 7 or 7.5. You might have to increase the voltage just a touch too.

yeah, i just got it to 1ghz with a 9*11. i have never been able to run that stable till i got my new board. im so stoked right now :-D
i have an AKCA stepping i believe

Hi,
Hey... I got a 1GHZ duron and a Soyo K7ADA mobo. I overclocked the Duron to 1133 MHz (10 x 103) but had probelms. Nothing really bad like blue screens or freezes just certain programs didn't work right. I finally had to down clock it to 1100 even. Like Mad Onion benchmarks won't run certain tests without freezing but can run the ones before and after it.
My question is, what is the highest speed I should be able to get?
My case has lots of fans and is spacious. I tried doing 1155 (11 x 105 V=1.85 and got no monitor. Then I tried 667 MHz (5 x 133) and got a blue screen error. And at 1177 (11 x 107) it won't even boot. The highest temp I've gotten is 46 C.
I am using the stock heatsink and fan. Also, I used a pencil to bridge the cpu not paste or that ink.
Is it the mobo? Heatsink? I'd like to run around 1.2Ghz. The RAM I am using is 256 MB PC2100. I'd run it at under 1 GHz if the FSB could be a bit faster.
Any suggestions.

god rest its soul as its being wasted in a machine at stock speed...:-(

As you seem to understand, overclocking sometimes requires an understanding of cooling, motherboards, cpu's, memory, and modifications. I would add that the quality of one's power supply is also an issue, as are the intangibles, like the stepping of your processor and your luck...
That being said, I would advise that you start by posting your question in the Soyo Motherboards topic, and see if others have experience with your motherboard, as this is probably the single most important component to a successful overclock.
My first impression would be to suggest that you boost your voltage to make your overclock more stable...both your cpu voltage and possibly your memory....
Good Luck!

Knowing that my cpu is 200MHz, i went to bios and set CPU Clock to 133 (stupid me),
after reboot all i got was black screen of death,
I tried later (15min) and with the "Insert" key
and it halted the boot soon after displaying
that my cpu is running at 1433MHz !
Then i put the jumper to clear CMOS
and attempted again (~30min later)
this time it halted after displaying
booting options and did not go any further,
in addition my keyboard was not operational
(i'm using this keybord right now)
Dear Gentelmen, please help,
what shall i do next ? would removal of cpu and reinserting help ?
Your help greatly appreciated.
Andy
