View Full Version : gpu keeps going into low power mode (I think)
When I'm sitting at my pc checking stats, or doing things on the web, basicly any time I've got the screen saver off, fahmon reports the gtx260 putting out upwards of 8kppd.. However, when I sleep, and then come and check it later, it's showing approx 2.5k ppd.. The numbers start climbing rapidly once I get rid of the screensaver again.
How can I keep it going in high gear?

Disable your screen saver.

As Peddler said and just have the Monitor turn of after 10-15mins of inactivity, or turn off Monitor when you go to bed saves power too!
teh screensaver consumes ye precious FPS (folds per second)
teh screensaver is 'blank'
teh screensaver is 'blank'
Just completely disable your screensaver, and set your moniteor to turn off after x minutes, as said above.
Also, some drivers have problems with switching modes when they aren't supposed to. What drivers do you have?

I didn't even know, but I had my screen saver enabled and never had a problem. Then I upgraded to 181.22 (I think that was it) and kept getting EUE's. I disabled the screen saver and went back to 180.84 just in case. So far I haven't gotten any *crosses fingers*. It also seemed to fix my problem of my fan slowing down to 50% and letting the GPU get up to 80C+, which may have been causing the EUE's in the first place.
Well, with turning off the *blank* screen saver... and turning power saving options on for monitor, It seems to have stabilized..
I can't figure out why a BLACK screen drew so much gpu power

You may have had a setting somewhere that forced your computer into low settings when the screensaver initialized to save electricity.
Also for the record, Rivatuner has issues with some newer drivers from nVidia that makes the automatic video mode switching kind of funky.

I guess the driver and screensaver weren't causing my problems :(
