I've noticed that the idle temp of my 1.4 ghz Tbird has gone up by 5 C. But I haven't done a single thing to it!! How and why has this happened?

Dust in your heatsink, grime in the fan bearings, dust in the case in general, someone covered a vent with something, the list is endless ;)

How long has your computer been running? Sounds like it could be a buildup of heat if your system's been running a few days. To check this out, just take off the cover, blow a fan over the motherboard for a few minutes, then replace the cover. If your temps drop back down, you've found your problem; you need better ventilation in your case.

I have two fans sucking air out, my computer has been on for a while and I do have air filters in the front...I guess I'll check them.

You should really reduce your signature, signatures these days are way too long.

You don't just have fans sucking out do you? If so, it would be good to put in a couple to draw in fresh air which would help drop the temp to lower than you had before!
If you already did this, sorry for assuming!
50 Idle thats a little high don't you think your load temps must be like 70 degrees then or something.
Did you add any fans before this?
Perhaps your mom turned on the heat behind your back.
Dust in your case. What are ambient temperatures?

First off those idle temps sound a bit faulty in the first place, in socket thermistor temps? Could be off just cause it feels like it today.
Agree on the clean your hsf, I dropped 6-8 degrees by cleaning and lapping (how much comes from each I don't know)
Also agree on need air coming in.
Reason I posted though is the in socket thermistor unreliability and also to suggest a little better cooling.

I have two fans sucking in, and 2 fans sucking out. There is also the psu fan sucking out. I cleaned the filters in the front of my computer, and they were really dusty. But the temperature didn't change. I max temp is about 55, and my min is about 50. My min should be about 45 and my max about 51. How do I clean my HSF? I dusted the fan with some compressed air, is that all I can do? How do I get the dust that's in the heat sink out if there is any?

What sizes of fans do you have and in which places? One more thing that seems to help lower temps is to put a small fan in the side door of your case right below the HS. The reason you don't put it right over is that it would interfer with the normal operation of the HS's fan. If you put it below, it will suck in cool air from outside the case right into the intake area of the HS fan. Also, it is good to have a positive pressure in the case. This means a little more going in that coming out. This will help with dust in the case and with the fan in the side of the case, it will make sure that air IS getting to the HS.
My systems was running about where yours is and I put one fan in like I described above and one in the top of the case to vent. I also have another fan in the front of the case bringing fresh air in. Doing this dropped my temps by 10degrees C! Hope this helps. :)

For cleaning out the dust remove your hsf, find an air compressor (you may get funny looks, but most gas stations will have one outside you can use, just pretend that you're filling a tire) and blow it out really well. Then pour some isopropyl on it, and blow it clean again. Seems to work for me. Have dropped 5C by cleaning it this way before.
Also when putting it back on clean off the heat compound, lap your hs and use ASII, should drop your temps below what you'd had before.
