What is the best FAH client to run on a Pentium Dual Core E2180 CPU? I currently have it running the MPICH SMP client, but the PPD sure seems low. If you look at the following comparison, I realize that the Q9300 is running slightly faster (3.5 vs 3.0) and has a much higher FSB (467 vs 300), but does it make sense that the Q9300 is making 2.4x the PPD? I just want to make sure that I am running the best client, maximizing PPD for the team
My E2180 @ 3.0GHz running MPICH SMP client on project 2653 (1760 pts) is only getting about 1015 PPD.
My Q9300 @ 3.5GHz running VM/Ubuntu SMP client on project 2653 (1760 pts) is getting about 2456 PPD.
I don't have experience with the Pentium D's, but the SMP clients are designed expressly for quads. Anything less hobbles it's ppd.

Makes sense. The E2180 has to run two instances of the FahCore_xx.exe on each core, while the Q9300 gets to run just one per core. Since it doesn't have to share the processing resources, each instance will (theoretically anyway) complete it's task at around the same time and then each instance can move onto the next task. On the dual-core, it's less likely that all the instances will complete at the same time, so it has to wait until they are all done to move on.

Sounds about right. the E2180 has MUCH MUCH less cash than the Q9300. I also would venture to guess the E2180 has slower memory in it? As far as I know f@h loves memory bandwidth also.

You should be running two VMs on your quad. Each VM should be making ~2456ppd on p2653, even more on A2 core wu. My quads are clocked a little less, but the VMs make ~2.2-2.3Kppd on p2653.
I do not know how a E2180 should perform, but it sounds a bit low to me. Perhaps you are using a pre 180xx video driver which has higher CPU usage.
My dual core E6600 is making 1875ppd on P2653 in Ubuntu VM at 3GHz on P6N Diamond with 3x8800GS running GPU2 on 180.22 drivers.
I would suggest running a VM on the dual core rig to make A2 wu available.

Thanks for the info HayesK. If you are getting 1875ppd on your E6600 at 3GHz, maybe 1015ppd is about right for my E2180. Unfortunately, the E2180 does not support "virtualization", so I cannot run the VM/Ubuntu client. I am running the 180+ drivers (I forget the exact version), but I will verify that tonight. Someday I would like to replace the E2180 with a Q9300 or Q9400, so that I can run dual VMs on my P6N.
And yes, I am running dual VMs on my quad. I'm getting about 2350-2450ppd on the p2653, and about 3200ppd on the a2 core wu's.
