I am going to build the new PC and the setup

Core2Quad Q8200
Asus P5Q Pro
ATI HD 4850 512MB

I am interested in buying 4GB (2X2GB) Kit for overclocking.

Should i go with 800Mhz RAM with timings like 4-4-4-12 or 1066Mhz ram with timings like 5-5-5-X. Both models have heat spreaders and with good brands.

Here I find 800Mhz with 4-4-4-12 like ram much more expensive than 1066Mhz rams.

So which one i should choose?

I'm running 1066 DDR2 Patriot Viper series and it kicks some serious ***. It's 59.99 at fry's for 2 X 2GB and runs stable at 2.1v all the way to 1150+

I vote a thumbs down on the (grim) Reapers. (Just go to their forum and you see what I mean) My vote would be for the GSkills.

I went over to OCZ form and could not find anything that would be a concern, maybe you could provide a link.

GSkills won't guarantee running 2 kits at the ratted 1066 speed that sounds bad in my book.

i just scooped my first pair of corsair stix, they run just like Rick James's, by the sounds of it heheh. so far im really likeing them :)

*looks over to pile of dead d9gmh* :/

Consider also the size (how tall) of the heat spreader. Get ram that will fit under your cpu cooler. Some of the tall heat sinks get in the way.

G Skill is good quality/value ram. 800mhz c4 vs. 1066mhz c5 is pretty much identical.
most 800mhz kits will oc to 1066mhz anyway. so get whatever is the cheapest.

and i vote Reapers. i've had no problems with mine :)
next in line is some Corsair Dominators. i've heard Mushkin are very very good as well.

I have been watching it since I bought 2 sets of OCZ and neither performs at stock speeds even with extra loose timings. They have been flooded daily with problems and they look to blame everything but their product. The problem is AMD, which sometimes it is, Prime95, the mobo. Eventually if folks are persistent they get it RMA'd. OCZ is pretty much underpricing it's rivals, but they are doing it by selling an inferior product. Right now, I would not buy anything branded OCZ. A month ago it was the only ram I'd buy. I have 2 other sets of OCZ I could RMA, but at $11.50 for shipping it economically doesn't make sense, especially when you just get the same second rate ram sent back to you.:bang head

it is until you get your fsb up there, then you can use the higher frequency ram to accentuate the fsb. i prefer fast and loose over slow and tight :)
