Hi all , gotsa' question:

Can you install 2 RAM modules in Slots 3 and 4 without first having fulfilled slots 1 and 2?

Most motherboards are key'd, and colored. Mine has 2 yellow, and 2 orange RAM slots: http://us.dfi.com.tw/portal/CM/cmpr...g=false&action=e&windowstate=normal&mode=view

The heatsink I purchased is absolutely HUGE dispite it's "low profile" name (Zalman cnps8700), and I don't believe that my RAM will fit into the first two slots.

I have 2x 2GB OCZ Reaper 8500: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227289

Thanks!

For whatever reason I can't bring up the link. Take a look in you owners manual and it will tell you what slots work in dual channel. But yes, usually like colored slots are the corresponding ones. It doesn't matter which ones you use as long as you stay in dual channel slots. So you would be fine using the outside slots. This is why I have never liked the reaper's, the huge heat sinks cause clearance issues with no cooling benefits.

Awesome, thanks.

Yeah I don't even think I could use any normal RAM (outside the Kingston low profile) with that Zalman heatsink. They really do a poor job of discribing how big it is...

You should be able to do that. Try it and see. It won't hurt anything, it just may not boot or be stable. I can do it on my gigabyte 780g board because the first slot is blocked of by the cooler heat pipes. Works fine.

i stuck 2 gbs of Kingston value ram in my dad's computer, side by side.
if the colour coding is 1+2 and 3+4 instead of 1+3 and 2+4, i'd just give it a try.

can you do 2+4 slot? because taht's what i use. my TRUE is mounted horizontally and so it blocks the first slot (big Reaper X heatsinks)

That would be another question as well. A+ told me NO, which is why I asked here (they are sorta....out dated) - but as you can see from my link, my code is 1/2, 3/4...

I'm also curious to see whether a 2/4 code would work.

Well, the computer is up and running (report to come this weekend) - and it worked. Just thought I'd chime back in.
