Hey All!

I just got the Intel x58 with the i7 920 and im trying to overclock it but all of the searches I do bring to the Asus board for info. Anyone out there that could post a simple walkthrough on how it can be done would be great!! I have never tried overclocking before.

Thx!

Welcome to the forums!

Could you list your complete system specs so folks have an idea of what you see when you're looking at your BIOS settings?

im posting pics that i took of my bios post pages

Hi scexpert2003
As TimoneX says we need an idea of your parts. what memory are you using for example ?
are you running on air , what cooler ?
What overclock are you aiming for ?

Mobo: Intel BOXDX58SO LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX

RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

CPU:Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz

Power: XIGMATEK MC NRP-MC751 750W ATX12V Ver.2.2

HD: Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb/s Hard Drive

GFX: SAPPHIRE 100251SR Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB 512-bit (256-bit x 2) GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16

OS: Vista x64 Ultimate SP1

I was hoping for a 4.0ghz over clock. still running the stock cooler but i will be getting a new heatsink once a learn how to OC. Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 120mm SSO CPU Cooler seems to be the only thing newegg has without getting an adapter and heatsink separate..for the price i think i will though. I have no interest in doing water cooling

well I don't think you'll get to 4gjz on stock cooler. :)
You may get to say 180x20 3600 by leaving all voltages except memory on auto. set memory voltage to what your corsair at rated at. Check out your temps at that & if ok try vreeping up from there.

Let us know how you get on :)

Hi Supershanks (YNWA):

Do you reckon I'd be able to do more than 3.6GHz with the system in my sig (not that I would be unhappy with 3.6GHz).

The RAM info

Code:
Model No - WA133UX6G8
RAM Total - 6 GB
Speed - 1333 Mhz
Data Rate - PC3-10600
Module Config - 256M x 64
Chip Config - 128M x 8
CL -	8-8-8-24
ECC - N
Heat Spreader - Y
Voltage - 1.5V

EDIT: BTW I feel for you given your location

hi milomak,
no reason why not. You have 2 options :-
1) run with turbo enabled so that x21 engages when core1 is loaded so that you get 160x21 3360 on load , assuming temps allow & spare core capacity is available on other 3 cores.
2) Turbo disabled & a straight overclock to target ie 3600 /20 = 180 x 20

If running on air yoo should find between 3600 & 3800 is possible dependeing on your cooling.
Energy wise it probably makes sense to look at optiion 1) 180 x 20 with turbo on.

BTW I feel for you given your location
 yes have moved to scotland since , but it was pretty good living in manchester , there are a number of clubs other than the obvious
Bolton
Man City
Wigan
Everton
Liverpool

So you watch a match in a pub there is genarally a good mix of fans, and the banter is good :)

Hi folks! Like Milomak and Scexpert2k3, I am one of those individuals with the D-920 in this new build: Antec 900 case, MSI Eclips SLI mobo w/Core i-7 D-920 proc,Thermalright Ultra 120-6pipe cpu cooler@ 23 deg. C/86 deg. F; 12 gig G.Skill: 1.5V ddr3-1333: 9-9-9-24 timing, 2x WD Caviar Black 1 TB drives in Raid-0, 2x MSI OC'ed GTX 280's each with 1 gig v-ram. This rig is rock solid at the stock (Auto-detected in bios) settings. OS is windows vista ultimate 64 w/sp1. I would like to overclock and think it not unreasonable to reach a stable 3.6 ghz with the above mentioned cooler. I have not attempted this before and was hoping someone had successflly reached 3.6 ghz with the same or similar equipment and could provide me with recomended bios settings to achieve my OC goal. [ read hand-holding ] I have this post over in the CPU section but have had no responses thus far. Supershanks, would you recomend those settings given to milomak in my case as well and will memory timing and voltage changes be required along with CPU clock increases? Thanks in advance
