What you probably heard is that it's better to hit the power button right after Windows shut down (monitor went to standby). This way the power load on the button is lower, thus it'll last longer.

That kinda makes sense. But I don't think it matters much either way. :eh?:

That is what I do when I'm turning the comp off too, but sometimes I leave it on and just turn the monitor off...
Well mines a 19" Proveiw - .25
It blew up once when it was a lil over 1 year old, I was watchin a movie and PoP! loud noise and a ton of smoke came out. Smelled like **** :P
So I RMA'ed it (took 3 weeks to get it back!) =(
I had to send it from NJ to CAL.

I cut both my monitors off at night ONLY. Usually they've already been powered down by windows and put into sleep mode or standby. I think the turning off and on was true a few years ago when monitors tended to burn images into the tube. Nowadaays I'm not sure if it hurts them or not. Even after I shut them off and then back ont he next morning the picture tube is still off until I wake it up.
Shipping a monitor, that must be expensive.
I turned my off by hand like 3-5 times a day and its been fine for over 2 years. There shouldn't be a problem but what I didn't like is that sometimes my mouse would move automatically and it would bug me that the monitor flickers when I try to sleep. Other than that the monitor should auto turn off say you were to just take a shower and then turn off the hard drives and the monitor when its idle.
Yodums
i turned one off by foot once and that for sure was bad for it
