I am eagerly awaiting my order of my yate loon mediums. I was wondering how loud it should be on my Swiftech triple radiator.

mine are 1650rpm fans @ 4.5v as a last stop total silent cooling stage. at 7v much more effective but a little blowy... but I am suffering from an obsessive noise reduction faze.
its not the motors more the level of turbulance threw the fins at higher rpm`s but its not offensive its quite low in the register.

to try to give an example around 10-15watt output from your sound and the noise will be very hard to follow against the important sound your trying to focus on from the speakers.

I have a pump that makes more noise than they create.

found it to operate quietest when its lay-ed out flat with fans blowing down (Used some spare long heat sink bolts to screw 4 legs in)
there less blowy and no clipping or riding sounds from the motor that way on.
also its about 2.5 meter away from me just for good measure.

Whisper quiet. I can really only hear mine if I'm sitting at my desk. If I turn off the TV i can just barely hear them from across the room.

Note that I have only push fans installed and they are shrouded with 25mm fan bodies.

Dapman, it's impossible to objectively say unless you have a DB meter. Then the DB doesn't cover the frequencies of the fan. And the setup you use them in. Your wall reflectiveness, your tolerance to a specific frequency. You could be 65 years old and not hear high freq much at all. It's like asking someone if a feather on the bottom of their foot tickles a lot or little. And then picking the feather brand on your results.

So, all we can to is give our input on our subjective thoughts.

That said, Yate Loons are pretty good for noise vs pressure/CFM ratings. Your mileage may vary.

I completely understand that, but I should be getting my yates tomorrow, and I'm actually (pathetically) excited for them.

NOOOO!!!!! I CAN'T WAIT

The reason for my excitement is because when I bought my radiator all I had were some really low CFM fans. The silence is nice, but I believe I can get even better performance from faster fans, thus my excitement.
I just didn't know what to expect noise wise

Dap, I understand how you feel. I'm waiting for two YL lows atm. I ordered them last tuesday and I'm becoming more excited with every day.

Of course. I can only tell you how loud it might be in real life, but it may well be many db's higher or lower, or any pitch higher or lower.

And the mediums are the ducks nuts for a Swiftech rad. I assume it's for a 320QP? I can feel the airflow through the fins from a meter away.

Ducks nuts ???

That's good to hear because the fans I have on there right now barely have enough airflow to make much of a breeze an inch or two away from the radiator.

They are the fans that came with my CM690

Hahaha, I did the same thing when I read that. Depending on your point of view, the ducks nuts might not mean awesome. :P

From what I hear, YL's are pretty freakin quiet. Personally, I don't mind a little noise so I'm using Scythe Ultra Kaze-3k's @ 7v - works great for me! :D

I have two high speed yates connected to a WC-202 that I modded to be a fan controller.

I only hear them at the highest possible setting. When I turn them down to medium speeds it's like they're not even there (and at low... they practically AREN'T there.)

Saved myself a bundle over buying a fan controller (and the WC-202 looks cooler than most fan controllers ;) )

I'd say get yourself a controller. That way you don't have to worry about how loud your fans are. When you're actually going to be in the room with the computer... turn them down. When you leave (or you got o bed) turn them back up.

I would definitely get a fan controller with those yate's. they work very well undervolted and are almost silent. I have 4 high speed yates in my case and can't tell the difference in noise between turned down (don't know the actual voltage) and off. I just use 3 settings, as low as they go for surfing, 7v or whatever the sumbeam controllers change led color for gaming and full blast for all out stress testing.
