Hey, quick question. I have a fan that has a 3 prong connector but I need it to have a molex connector. I have a couple molex connectors laying around which only have two wires red (positive) and black (ground) The fan on the other hand has 3 wires red, black, and yellow. The fan is a 120mm single speed fan and I'm wondering what the yellow wire is for. It does have blue led's that light the fan is that what the yellow is for? Could I solder both the yellow and red to the red wire coming from the molex connector? If not what can I do? Thanks.
I believe the yellow wire on the 3 pin connector is for RPM monitoring, if you were to plug it into a motherboard.
You can buy 3 Pin to 4 Pin adapters if you didn't know, which are cheap. Otherwise you can go ahead and use just the red and black wires and splice them. The yellow wire you can remove.
