Hi guys, this is my very first post here. I hope I could get answers to the probs I have ATM.

So, recently I've got a GTX 295 and a GTX 285 (thanks CeBit! And not to mention, also a 4870X2, but not important, 'cause I'd sell it right away). The GTX 285 run fine on my Rig. But when I put the GTX 295 in and power the computer on, I get nothing but the fans' spinning. As I can see the whole hardware turned on, the card also, but no life signs; no BIOS on the monitor or even Windows.

Here is my spec :

- Case : Coolmaster Cosmos 1000
- PSU : Xilence Power 600W
- CPU : Intel Core 2 Quad 6600 OC'ed to 3.2 Ghz
- RAM : GSkill 4 GB DDR2
- Graphics : GeForce 8800 GTS 512 (G92)
- Sound : Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Music
- and a common Harddisk, a DVD-RW.

Could it be the PSU that is not big enough, or (please, don't!) the card that is DOA or even KOA, because of the low Wattage?

Thanks!

Have you tried switching the DVI cable to the other port? I had that happen to me with the same model card. Switching the cable to the bottom port fixed it for me. Your power supply might be a little low, but you should have enough to boot up.

I think the problem is your power supply. Look at the label on the side of the power supply and check to see how many amps the 12 volt rails supply. I believe the GTX 295 requires a combined 46 amps between both of the power connections.

Cornholio, that would mean each card draws 1100W, I doubt that...

More like 46A for the whole generic system.

Huh? Where did you get the 1100 Watts for each card from my response? I never mentioned wattage, only amperage. Is it the way I worded "for both power connections." It requires a combined 46 amps BETWEEN both connections. Maybe that's where the confusion was.

46 * 12 = 552

A(mps) * V(olts) = W(atts)

Actually the card itself is unable to draw more than 25A, or 300W. The system as a whole will of course draw more. The 46A figure was probably NVIDIA's recommendation for a whole system. Something else to take into account is that many power supplies aren't actually capable of putting out what they claim on their label.

Nvidia recommends a PSU with 46A combined on the 12V rails, and 680W total power output. Looking at your PSU, you have 31A at 12V, and 600W total. It probably doesn't put out enough power to run the system with that card installed.

I'd recommend getting a bigger power supply. Check the recommended PSU list (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=589708) for a good one.

Also, I doubt that underpowering the card would kill it. I've never heard of a component being killed by an undervolt (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I've tried all posible altenatives, including trying the card on my friend's comp (it has 750W), but still no luck. When KOA is out of considering, then it could be the card that is DOA. I'll try to contact the manufacture. Thanks for your help guys!
