about 4 months ago i got a 1.4 T-bird that overclocked pretty well at 1500mhz (150x10) but my temps weren't too great... and i had a feeling that the chip had more in it.. i use a CAK38 for cooling
So i got some sandpaper 150-1500 and lapped away.... 2 hours later i had a mirror shine w/o polish

Slapped that baby back on.. dropped my temps 7 degrees.

Now running at 1650mhz!!!!!! (165x10)

At 45 C load

so Lap those heatsinks... i got an extra 150mhz out of it!!!!

what method did you use to lap them? I keep trying new methods to stop the crowning effect. I found the best methods are to use a curved surface, or a reallyflat one with wet sanding. I made a really getto lapping setup, but it did work good against crowning. The heatsink sticks to the cpu with suction, so it shows it's flat. Well basically I took a flat slot-1 heatsink, and put on an old phone card, then 600 sandpaper. That was pretty flat, then I took a box cutter as a guide to keep the movement staight. I used swiss bearing lubricant, and then goof-off for cleaning. The CPU was my celeron 433 sanded to the copper, and the heatsink, I didn't take a picture of, was a huge P4 sink. The result from lapping was being able to post 650 and almost enter windows. Before lapping I only could post 650 with a peltier. Sorry my temp probe broke and I never replaced it. Well, I'm going to try to use a flat piece of glass next, and I'll hopefully have temps.

heres a picture of the getto lapper after I finished.

now try to take off and lapp the HS that is on your notrhbrige chipset, adn apply a fan and AS if it dont have it alreasy, and overlcock some more. That will usually alllow for a few more mhx FSB.
