I bought an X-Fi Fatal1ty a while back from someone on this forum so that I could eventually setup a surround sound system but I've run into some problems.

My first problem is that when I'm on YouTube playing videos or music or whatever, I only get stereo, which would be fine except that my speakers low frequencies are cut off for my sub to fill in. Right now YouTube or anything in my browser will not put out sound to my sub or back speakers.

Second problem is with Media Player Classic. When I play a DVD or Blu-Ray movie that has surround sound, everything works great; however, when I try to play a video with only stereo audio encoded, I run into the same problem -- no subwoofer. I have quite a few movies on my hard drive, most of which are stereo, so watching these movies without a sub AND my rear speakers sucks.

Now I have figured out how to get Foobar2000 to output surround sound, so no issues with music being played by all 5 speakers and sub.

Until I installed this X-Fi, I had stereo output from my computer to my amp, and the amp (Yamaha HTR-5730) set to 5.1 stereo, meaning it blended the front speakers for the center and mirrored the front speakers for the rears. It also output to the subwoofer this way just fine. I was using an Audigy 4 Pro before, but one of it's jacks went to crap.

I have experimented with the CMSS-3D which does output stereo signals to 5.1, BUT it sounds WEIRD. It does not sound right at all with music (which as I said is already taken care of) and is also weird sounding with movies.

Is there some way to get my soundcard to output surround (or at least the subwoofer in addition to the two front speakers) for ALL stereo sources on my computer?

Thanks!
Derek

I don't know the specifics, but there should be an option in the X-Fi control panel called something among the lines of "Surrond upscaling". That should activate the sub and rear speakers with stereo sound.

Hmm, I'll have to look. The only thing that installed with the drivers was the Creative Audio Control Panel. The only options to simulate surround is through CMSS-3d. When I try and watch a movie with CMSS-3d on though, it is constantly warping voices and sounds between speakers. It is really weird sounding.

I DID get Media Player Classic to export surround sound by playing with AC3 Filter though. Just no sub/surround sound on YouTube now.
