Hey fellow OCforumers.

I need to get myself setup with a cheap laptop in a hurry - Due to the economy im on a very tight budget of $350 or less. I dont want a netbook as im done with XP and i've seen 14+" screens for this price. Does anyone have a link to any good cyber deals for laptops? My primary use for this is Remote Desktop connection and E-mail. Here my wishlist.

14" or greater
2 gigs ram
visa home or better
wireless builtin
perferably intel processor

Thanks for your help

Maybe eBay, doubt you'll find anything new as the netbooks are champs in that price category. FWIW, I use an Acer netbook for precisely the purposes you listed (remote cupport and web/email). I don't spend all day on it so the screen size doesn't matter much. You can get the Acers at Walmarts for $300.

Best Buy has a laptop on sale almost every week for $400. This week it's a Toshiba, fits all your other criteria. I don't think I've ever seen a full featured laptop for $350 except on BF..

I'm with Pinky; I use an Asus EEE PC.

Screen is smaller than you requested but it does everything you need it to do. In fact, I haven't even turned on my desktop in several months.

I use the exact same one, and am happy with it. I use the CS4 collection and it fares well enough.

Asus 1000HE netbook I paid $340 for makes an excellent addition if you already have a power house laptop/computer.

I won't recommend a laptop in the price range you want because there garbage and generally have terrible battery life, bad build quality, etc.

I second the EEE decent laptop and good well built netbook machine.

These requirements are simply unrealistic for your price.. with your budget you:

A Will need to get on your grind and really refresh ***** the hell out of craigslist

B Get something broken on ebay and fix

C Get some more cash together

D Simply lower your requirements.

A is probably your best chance of getting your laptop, but would require the most luck, as i got a Dell D630 last july for $230 (2.0 C2D, 80gb, 2gb, 14") like new on craigslist. THis is a once in a life time deal though, you dont really even see used dual cores for $450 or lower, especially with legit vista.

D and C hybrid. is probably the most realistic option though.

FYI Those toshibas and acers you see for $400 are garbage. You truly do get what you pay for. Check ebay, you will be surprised by the amount of dead acers you see, they have a working life span of around 2 years (in most cases less).

Based on your requirements I would recommend getting a D600 Dell latitude on ebay (or maybe a T41 or T42) that woudl run you $150-$200 with smart shopping on craigslsit. More than enough for remote desktop and email. Also, ram for these is dirt cheap. Like really cheap. You can do without the current dual core processors.

According to frys-electronics-ads.com many of the Fry's stores have a similar Acer laptop going for $349 right now, though only 2 GB of RAM.
