View Full Version : Dual loop or not?
So I want do cool my CPU, NB, and GPU (later on). I wouldn't do the NB, but its really hot and I put a LOT of voltage through it, and more to come when I OC the CPU even more.
Anyway, I was planning on using two 2*120 radiators. I'm wondering if a single MCP655 will be enough for everything... or do I need to do a dual loop?
I was thinking... T-line, pump, rad1, CPU, rad2, GPU, NB, T-line.
I need input please. I've read a lot but that seems like kind of a big loop for just one pump, or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about...:S

If you have room go triple, no question asked
I don't really have that much room... I MIGHT be able to fit it on the outside of my case, but then I wouldn't be able to put it in my desk... plus I'm gonna upgrade to a quadcore and probably a GTX260 in the summer. So I was thinking a triple would be overwhelmed.

You need to tell us your CPU block and NB block. Flow rate matters. Also what rads?
The MCP655 comes in two variants, which one? Also, some rads are more flow restrictive than others, it matters for me to help. More info please.
Yeah, well I did some measuring and I can't fit a MCP655 in the front of my case... But I would have the room for two MCP350s... Sadly I would have to use 3/8" tubing.:(
I would use an MCW30 more than likely for chipset, and a Storm Rev. 2 if it is still there when I buy (if not probably an Apogee).
So would these loops work fine?

I would consider a better flowing CPU block. Two of those pump in series is more than enough. Have you looked into a MCP355 with an aftermarket top? Put any barb on you want, here is Martins shootout. And the pump is smaller than the MCP655.

Skinnee mirrors it, bookmark his place too.

You would be fine with a MCP355. Unless you have a massively restrictive block, I don't see a problem. The MCW30 is a straight flow thru block that has little to no restriction, other than changing direction and barb size. GPU blocks are pretty much the same. A pair of MCR220's would be fine with that system. You'll probably get better temps with a dual loop but you don't have to.

Yeah I'm thinking dual loop now. I don't think I will do series pumps if I'm using two anyway.

a single MCP655 or MCP355 with after market top will handle what you want but if you have the space and money 2 loops is best.
and as said i would go with the apogee GTZ over the storm then your other blocks are good choices.
Okay I've pretty much decided on parts... But I have a question or two more...
I'm super tight on money since I'm going my acrylic case too and I just had to pay $100 to get my Mogul replaced... Anywho....
LOOP 1
MCP350 with Acetal DDC top coming... $40
Black Ice Pro 240 coming (gonna spraypaint silver)... $40
DD fillport & T-line coming... (included in $80 above)
Apogee GT coming (couldn't afford anything else, it was only $25)
all 1/2" tubing... (free with Apogee)
--I will have a MCW30 or Maze4 chipset block for my NB in this loop until I get my second one up, then I will move it there.
LOOP 2
Some MCP 350 pump with aftermarket top
Another BIP 240 rad will be mounted on top
Some GPU block
NB block when added
1/2" tubing too
QUESTIONS
-How bad do temps get on the P35 southbridge? I was thinking about just getting a big heatsink without a fan and sticking it on there... I'm wondering because I almost always max out my voltages when going for a big OC...
-Can I use the clear kind of PT nuke with a UV dye? I know it says not recommended, but has anyone done it with okay results?
I think thats it for now, thanks.
dual loops aren't really needed now-a-days with gear you have listed a single pump is all that is needed, hell I can run a phobya (one of the most restrictive blocks in history) a GPU f/c block and nb block all on a single 355 with a feser 120.3 rad. Temp wise is the same as a cpu only loop as well so if you haven't ordered yet/can return some of the stuff I would but that's jusy my opinion. My cpu is a Q6600 heavily oc, video is a 4870 oc, and nb is x48 with 1.7v running thru it.

the clear pt nuke is for distilled water loops only and i wouldn't risk any reactions with coolants. if your worried about the colour in the regular pt nuke its only 2 drops and you will not see a change.
I'm not worried about the color. It is just I can only find the CuSO4 nuke at Petra's and they charge 10 shipping just for the stupid little bottle...

really? that doesn't sound right. i ordered 4 bottles of it to Canada for $13.21 USD total.
Petra'sTech PT_Nuke -PHN Concentrated Biocide (http://www.petrastechshop.com/peptpcobi1.html) - distilled water only.
Petra'sTech PT_Nuke Concentrated Biocide (http://www.petrastechshop.com/pepcobi1.html) - distilled water and dyes
Yeah, if you tick the first-class mail it drops to $3 shipping....
*facepalm*
