Hi everybody
I intend to get my PC as quiet as possible.
To achieve this, I want to switch off the CPU cooler (standard Intel).
First I lowered CPU speed from 1,2GHz to 800MHz. But to get lower temps, I need to use lower Vcore. I noticed that this mobo doesn't want to go below 1,53Vcore.
I have used the wire trick to get higher Vcore but when I looked the datasheet of Intel Celeron to get lower Vcore, I am note sure, if I understood it correctly.
Does anyone know which pins to connect. I guess there are several possibilities - lowest is 1,05V. Maybe 800MHz will work with it.
I hope someone can help me, other forums couldn't
and thanks
Mobo - TUSL2-C
CPU - 1,2 celeron
Aopen 300W PSU
for a good burn in use a lower clock speed and MAX vcore available, and keep the chip as cool as possible under 100% full load. I got 30mhz more form my processor with 48 hours of burnin, but results vary (some get more/less).

I don't think he wants to burn-in, Pinky :) (BTW, a week of burn-in added 0 Mhz to my topend. :) My Celery 633 really benefited from the burn in, though, allowing it over 1050...)
Those Tualatins can go LOW in the voltage department. For a while, I was running 1.325 volts for a 1.2 @ 1.33 Ghz! I haven't tried lower speeds, but I'm sure even lower voltages are possible.
I, too, have the wire trick currently implemented, but my motherboard (ST6) seems to have no problem allowing me to go that low for vcore with the wiretrick in place. Can't really help you there...

You should probably get a much better heatsink if you want to do passive cooling. Intel's stock heatsink is horrible. Replacing it should drop your temps even more
I wouldn't set the Vcore to max if you were using an Intel stock fan. Go get a better cooler like a Volcano 6cu+ which is good for Intel. Your going to need to set the fsb to a really low fsb probably like 66fsb x 12 multiplier which I think your on now which is 800mhz and then put on the wire trick and crank the voltage up! Then burn in for as long as possible.
Use Prime95 or CPUBurn they are really HARD stressers more than like Seti or folding.

Guys, what he wants to do is run his CPU without a fan on it. He wants as little noise as possible with his comp, and that means reducing his Vcore as low as possible so it generates as little heat as possible so he doesn't need a fan. *gasps for air*
Now to answer your question, I don't know of any way to reduce it, sorry. Just clarifying things up for others who might.
Underclocking primo I could go to 667mhz on my celey 1ghz .18 just ran it at 5% fan using speedfan off the net, slows header fans using software turns bak up when too hot
Whoops, for whatever reason (was in a hurry earlier) I responded completely off topic. Think good direction has been given since :).

Thanks to everybody.
I decided not to completely turn off the fan, but instead to use 5V current. Now it rotates at 1500 RPM and is almost noiseless.
To gg - I'm going to try this speedfan, other proggies like CPUcool have failed, or is it just me.
One thing that concernes me is that sometimes temp goes almost 50c.
To Sklathill - do You remember what was temp when You used this low voltage?
To It_The_Cow and others - which cooling to prefer? I guess the speed of the fan is not so important, instead a big HS is or ...?
To jazztrumpet216 - You were totally right
To Yodums - is there any other reason for burn-in test, besides testing stability?
Thanks again for the replies

Once I tried 1,6Ghz (Vcore1,825). WinMe worked fine but XP crashed at loading desktop
i already answered u @ cusl2.com..
cheers
p.s. i still dont understand why would u slow down your CPU,and remove fan but..nm..its your choice

Trap - thanks for warning me, but Intel CPUs dont't fry themselves so easily.
Asus Probe reports that CPU fan speed is 1776 and temp is 41c.
Does anyone know why Asus Probe reports different temps compared to MBM, CPUCool and SpeedFan.
I guess that Probe is right and others are wrong because others give me those readings: -32, 29, 23. None can be CPU.
Thanks and I have to say that this is the best forum I have seen.
Yeah i know, thats also one of the reasons i prefer Intel above AMD...MBM is the best IMO cuz its reportin the right temps and voltages and its much more stable than Probe. One more confirmation to that is that ASUS has it on its FTP site.I just upgraded to the latest 5.1.0.4 version and it rocks..just try it if u need any help or still have wrong reports i'll b glad to help u about the setup.
cheers

Thanks Trap.
I installed MBM5104.
Temp sensor1 - ASUS1 - 29c
Temp sensor2 - ASUS2 - 23c
Temp sensor3 - ASUS3 - (-32)c
BIOS and Asus Probe say that CPU temp is 41c
Temp sensor2 is CPU, I stopped fan and it started to rise.
Do I have to use compensation.
I guess that compensation is already programmed into Asus Probe.
I hope You can tell me if I am configured something wrong or is it just TUSL2-C.
Do u have a sensor called CUSL2 or similar, maybe TUSL2 on the MBM list?
To determine which one is CPU and which one is mobo i use the following method (just to b sure;)):
I open two divx movies (usually those which are the highest quality) and play them simultanously. The temp that goes high pretty fast for about 10-20°C is the temp of the CPU.
I have the same thing with my CUSL2 and my CUSL2-CB Black Pearl.Bios is @ about 39-40°C(thats because the OS is not sendin the HLT commands to the CPU when its idle) and the temps in XP Pro. on MBM are from 26°C(idle) and 43°C on full load never above...And i'm pretty sure those temps are quite right cuz i have very good system cooling ;)

Yes there is a sensor called ASUS2(Cusl2) but it doesn't let me choose it.
But I am sure that sensor 2 is my CPU because it went from 23 to 31 when I used CPUBurn
I don't believe those numbers because BIOS tells me that I have temp 41c.
I told ya why the BIOS says higher temp, btw how did u install that driver while installing did u tell him to install in system ,boot or automatic?
I am runnin XP and i installed that driver to load while booting.

I deinstalled MBM, rebooted (just in case) and installed with this "boot" option. But temp is still 23c. And SisSoft Sandra says also 23.
So my current situation is:
TUSL2-C bios ver 1011 says 41c
ASUS Probe says also 41c
All other non-asus proggies say 23c.
As cpu cooler runs with 5V at 1700RPM, 23c would be wonderful:)
CPUCool's and speedfan's fan speed regualtion also doesn't work.
Today I polished CPU Intel stock heatsink and CPU's heatspreader.
@1,2GHz 1,53Vcore and fan speed 1700RPM (almost noiseless) temp is 45 at full load - I should be satisfied.
I read that wonderful article http://www.amdmb.com/article-display.php?ArticleID=105&PageID=5 and found out that with less Vcore (using wiretrick that I don't know how to do) @800MHz, it would be possible to get below 15W of CPU power consumption. Hmm...thinking about my previous CPU - 1,2 T-bird.
Can u now choose that sensor CUSL2 or it's still unavalaible?

Thanks!
Now I can select it and it shows the right number - 40c.
But do You know if it is possible to control the speed of CPU fan.
I checked http://www.almico.com/sfhardware.php and TUSL2-c is not in the list.
Yes it is.MBM will read your fan speed but only if its attached to the motherboard not to the PSU directly. If u have it attached to the PSU directly there is a simple way to connect the third(control) wire from your cpu cooler with original 3-pin connector to the mobo.

I have already done that. Yellow one goes directly to PSU red wire, to get 5V.
I checked speedfan doesn't support my Winbond monitoring chip.
But thanks anyway.
I wonder does this destroy my ASUS TNT2 if I stop the fan on the graphics chip.
Probably to do that, I have to get a bigger heatsink.
And one more thing. An idea came to my head (i guess it is nothing new). What if I put some kind of a tube between CPU fan and other end outside the case. So I can close the case without overheating. CPU fan will cool CPU and also operates as an exhaust fan. Then I can turn off all other fans including PSU.
What a pitty, I don't want to ruin my beautiful Aopen case.

Sorry for the late response. If you want to go for complete passive cooling, you might want to look at Swiftech's MCX370 (http://www.swiftnets.com/MCX370.htm). It's $20 for the bare heatsink, so you may want to look into it. Your temps seem fine right now, so I personally wouldn't bother
