View Full Version : Yatta
Ok I think it was decided. Our slow team is Yatta. Start cranking up those old PCs!
My p200 in folding away it is on a GNRA hairpin. It is 34% done going at about a frame every hour and ten minutes.

My roommate's K6-2 500 is folding uner Yatta as we speak... :)
Is this the "Do you Yatta?" thread?
It would be interesting to see what kind of power is going to be supplied by the Yatta team.
Show us your Yatta! :D
I should be getting the pentium pro that I've been bragging about soon. :D
Yatta has begun!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, that's my roommates' K62 500. CHecked his FAHlog over our network and it sent the WU a few hours ago.
:)
I enjoy being a pioneer.

well, when i can get over to my aunt's house, chalk up a p133 for the yatta team :D

I am not sure whether a p133 will be able to finish a work unit in time. I have heard of a p166 doing it but it was on 24/7 with nothing else running on it. I am actually worried that my p200 is going to cut it close. But I had to shut it down for a little while:(
Fold on!!!
Edit: My p200 finished on time with many hours to spare.
I think that maybe I can get a 466 celeron in on the act. It's not on all the time but may be fast enough to get the work done and would therefore qualify. ;)

hey ploaf,
I do have a 466 celeron folding right now, the p133 would be folding 24/7 with nothing else on it. I am going to try the 133 for now, if that doesn't work maybe i will switch the 466 over for the yatta team.

hummmm wonder if I could try one of my P100 MHz@ 120 to fold!
what do u guys think.:o

I really don't think a p133 can turn in the wu's fast enough. I think a 100 oced to 120 probably won't turn in the wu's faster enough.
As the saying goes "it won't kill you to try"
on another subject, i am going to try and buy a k62 500 from a friend of mine.

In people's experience, what is the minimum necessary speed of a processor to complete a wu in time? That way, people might have a better idea of what to donate to Yatta!
I would say a p 166. this is not a definite but I have heard of a 166 doing it in time. Fold on.

I know that my p.pro 200@233 does just fine. 20.84 mins per frame on a bba5_build.

I just got my Pentium 166@200 up and running.. Its actually busting through frames faster than I expected, though its only working on a bba5_build_ext.
I used to do RC5 (distributed.net) with this old PC, so its happy to fold..
Celeron 433 reporting for Yatta! Part time though. I will try to keep it running as much as I can, but I can't control it completely even though it's MY system. :) We take what we can get.

P200MMX w/W2K does a BBA5 frame in 1525 sec or 42.61 hrs. So thats before the deadline for this protein :D

Try the FAQ thread here. (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?threadid=52468) There is also the tips and tricks at the teams Folding website. That link is in my sig. Everyone is pretty helpful here just ask if you have any questions. Welcome to the Fold:D

I'm switching my P2 266 to Yatta.. We need the extra firepower to keep up with those Athlons...
I just switched my PIII600 laptop to Yatta. It will do about 2 points per 26 hours. Hope that helps.

Yatta is a subteam of team 32. You enter Yatta as your username but still fold for overclockers.com :D

As far as I know Yatta was restricted to 500's and below. Why ban a P3 500? It would fold slower that a duron 500 wouldn't it. Do they have duron 500's?:o

Heh, I was just wondering if you're still crunchin some under Yatta, I've noticed that I'm coming right up on Yatta and with as many that said they were designating their older units to Yatta, I figured I would'nt be able to catch up. Does'nt seem like Yatta is moving though. Wassup???

hmmm what's going on guys? What happened to all those comps folding for Yatta?
PS (Notice the Active Processors within a week)
My p200 met with destruction after it died 5 days into a WU. I might try to get my p 500 folding for Yatta in a little while. I am battleing it out with Mr. B right now and that 500 is keeping it pretty ballanced. Fold on!!!!!

Heck.. Let me pull these beer cans out of my compaq 5062.. i think i might have a K62 450 chip laying around.. will have to overclock board to make it work........ hell i dont know if board even works.. one way to find out LOL_______________________________________________--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
$#^%#^%#%^ I forgot it wont support 512mb DIMMS (all i have:(. ) well i guess i can pick some up tomorrow or maybe steal one out of one of my duron boards at work (I REALLY dont need 256mb with a 900@1.0ghz right? LOL)
Ah! I am finally enlightened as to what Yatta actually is!
My dad has an aging 250 (he still doesn't know I Oced it to 333 :D) but I have no chance of getting it to run anywhere near 24/7. But If I ever get a hold of an old rig...
What happened to Yatta?
The team is getting wasted by Team Centipede! It's showing no cpu's for the last week which means that the box that I set up didn't turn in any work in the last week. :( I can get it to run overnight at least once. Probably grabbed ahold of one of those Protein A's :)

I no longer have a pc that qualifies. The celly is going to be sold. On the brighter side, this happened because of upgrades and that means a better wu output for Team 32!

Well my K62 wont handle windows install :( so unless i can get educated on linux..it doesn't have a prayer or future in folding..If i kick down for a new hdd and a mobo,, i might as well build new system altogether.. sorry YATTA for i have failed you
My compaq is going to be a beer can catcher once again

Well I'm having trouble with the p200. Its gonna take 12 days to complete a GNRA hairpin. It must be the VNC server but I'm not positive.
I will put a message on the overfoldix homepage about Yatta - asking everyone not in team 32 who uses overfoldix to dedicate at least one <500MHz rig to Yatta!!

It has one processor for the week:( I wonder if someone should enter it in the contest? Would that gain it more atention. I might switch my p-500 over in a few days while I am out of town.

Hey PF, Got a question for ya. Do you have to have a version of linux already installed for this to run? or is it setup w/ its own operating version of linux? I might consider setting it up on my old rig, but I have to keep windoze on it for my boys. I don't think they would understand Linux at all and that unit is basically theirs for learning.

See http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/nelson27/ for more info, but basically this linux distro boots off a CD and does not write anything to any drive. Everything is kept in RAM.
Unfortunately I cannot fold on my Dad's PC anymore :(
But I am allowed to run it 24/7 on the librarians Celly700! :)
Its got a proteinA variant tho  so may take some time.
I have also got more chance of running my rig overnight! I covered a lot of the case inside with toilet paper! (clean of course!). Case temp up a bit, but now it is really quiet. Perfect for a bit of quiet nocturnal folding :)
I was making sure that my Yatta box was staying up yesterday. It's not easy though. I tried the Jedi mind trick but it's just too hard when I'm usually 20 miles away from it. ;)
Also Team Centipede is about to cross 100! Is this little orange dude cool or what.

the board is toast on my compaq :(...... Its back to its original job, holding my beer cans.. i have a friend trying to find a socket 7 to donate to me and i guess i'll have to hard wire the PSU (compaq is propietary) and dig up an NIC somewhere i haven't givin up on yatta yet :)..
Got a P/// 500 folding for 12hrs/day under my name now :)
Unfortunately its just a tiny bit too fast for Yatta :(

So why would it be too fast, I thought the general concept was units 500mhz and under, is it o/c'ed? ( what was I thinking, of course it is, where am I? Overclockers.com) :D
Ploaf, that is a cool orangie!
Sorry I thought it was under 500?
I think its a 500 - its my friends dad.
come on guys we need to show some progress. I just went and bought a crossovercable so as soon as my nic's arrive I'll have a p2 300 running.
My P///500 is now folding for Yatta.:D Come on people if you have a 500 or less please let it fold for Yatta. Maybe next contest we will enter Yatta and if Yatta wins then donate it back into the contest!!!!!!! Fold on!!!!!

I have a P166, but I stole parts from it when I built this one :), and I only have 1 monitor. All I need to get it up and running is a vid card, which my borther will bring me at easter holidays (a 2Mb vid card which I gave him after I upgraded to the Banshee). I would have to move the ISDN card over to the P166, download the wu's, then shut it down and move the ISDN card back. Is it harmful to plug/unplug a monitor from a computer while it's running?
Is there any use anyway? Won't these computers take so long to fold that the workunits will expire and be assigned to someone else?

It is best to use a p200 or higher. Even the p-200 has to be on 24/7 without doing anything else to get it done on time. I have heard it being done on a p-166. So try it and see if it will work. Fold on!!!!!

There are time limits on WUs - about 2 to 9 days, depending on the WU.
Unplugging a monitor from a running machine is OK.
Perhaps you could network the two rigs? Save mucking about with the ISDN adaptor?

I'll be in after 2.6 days when the family p!!! 450@523 (overqualified:D) finishes it's current proteinA.
I'd loooove to have ane or two of those on my xp1600, but all I've gotten (even after 3 unrelated OS reinstallations) have been 601 and 602 (45s/frame for 200 frames @ .75 pts = 150 mn/pt). Go figure. Anyone know how to manipulate the benchmark?
BTW, here's how team Yatta's faring as of tonight. Coming close to tknig down my mistyp.d account.

The P!!! 450@523 is now folding its first proteinA 24/7 for Yatta. It should be done in a couple (8000-9000) minutes. Looks like there are four other CPUs folding too (and probably a couple that haven't turned anything in in the past week).
Oh yeah, BUMP!
