Hi, all. I wonder if you folks can give me some recommendations on a GPU for a second rig of mine.

It is used for typing/writing mainly.

It has this Asus M3N78-VM mobo (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131318&Tpk=Asus%20M3N78-VM) with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750 Kuma 2.7GHz Black Edition. The monitor is a 22" Samsung 226BW.

The mobo has an integrated Nvidia 8200 video. The display is OK, passable, but definitely could be improved.

I am looking at this Nvidia 8400GS (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130313), but I am not sure it is significantly better than the integrated 8200 video. They are both of the 800 series, right?

Another thing that you need to bear in mind is that I'd prefer a card that does NOT dump a lot of heat in my box.

Many thanks in advance for your suggestions.

So no gaming whatsoever? Because if there is none, can't see a reason to upgrade from integrated video... that'll just add more heat and eat watts...
Anyways, 9500gt or 4650/70 is good, just find one with good aftermarket cooler. I recommend these because I think they're among the most powerful cards that does not need a 6pin.

stick with onboard if your not doing any gaming.... the 8200 will be more then enough... what do you mean by "the display is passable"? 2d is 2d, if you want the best 2d then look at getting a older PCI matrox based card or one of the newer PCIE cards.
