I have this RAM in my i70 920 system. Some basic stats:

Code:
Model No - WA133UX6G8
RAM Total - 6 GB
Speed - 1333 Mhz
Data Rate - PC3-10600
Module Config - 256M x 64
Chip Config - 128M x 8
CL - 8-8-8-24
ECC - N
Heat Spreader - Y
Voltage - 1.5V

Would it hold me back a great deal if I were looking to overclock on stock cooling (using a CM690 Windowed case)?

I currently have my i7 920 (C0 stepping) running at 3.8GHz (190x20). I have the RAM running at 8-8-8-24 timings and 1.6V. The board automatically ups the speed to DDR3-1523. Vcore at 1.375V in case it matters. This is stable and I have done a 24hour test with Prime and have been using the settings for 24/7 use for the past month or two.

When I try to up to 4GHz (200x20), within minutes of starting up Prime95, the computer freezes. I have tried to up the VCore to 1.45V but the same thing happens, ie the computer freezes. This happens when temps are still relatively low (low 60s Celsius) so I don’t think it is a heating issue.

Is it possible that the RAM is holding back clocking at 4GHz? If I got DDR3-1600 (Corsair XMS3 Intel XMP CL9) or better is there a chance that 4GHz might stick? Or is RAM not the issue here?

With a BCLK of 200MHz, set the DRAM Frequency to DDR3-1603MHz, QPI / DRAM Core voltage to 1.35V, and DRAM timings to 10-10-10-24; 1.64 DRAM Bus voltage.

Thanks for the help. Tried the settings. Windows 7 restarts at the splash screen and when I try to boot Debian (Linux) there is a kernel panic. Maybe this CPU is doomed never to see 4GHz. I even tried with VCore and QPI at 1.375V.

Did you run Memtest86+ before attempting to boot into Debian? Up the DRAM voltage to 1.70V at 10-10-10-24; 1603MHz, and run Memtest.

i'll run memtest86+ overnight:

10-10-10-24 timings
1.75V DRAM
QPI and VCore at 1.375V
4GHz (200x20)

I guess these pic shows that the RAM is not a problem?

Sorry for the bump - just wanting to confirm that the RAM is not the issue given the screenie above?

The RAM looks OK; 21 passes and 16 hours of run time error free. You might want to tighten the timings to 9-9-9-24, then run Memtest again at 1600MHz. Fill out this BIOS template for the P6T w/ all of your current settings, or just try these settings for 4.00GHz...
