I got a Soundblaster Live! MP3+, Win2K, and a KT266A chipset MB(Gigabyte GA-7VTXE). My sound is REALLY LOUD!!! I use headphones, and when I turn off the sound in the Windows mixer, there is still sound, which is really weird. When I turn it up a CM, the sound blasts from my headphones and I can hear it over my fans, which are very loud. This never happened to me when I ran Win98SE in a PIII system with the intel 815 chipset.

if you go to start - programs - accesories - entertainment - volume control
then make sure you have the advanced button under volume control. click on advanced, and make sure under "other controls" the "1 enable S/PDIF" is unchecked, and along with the "digital output only" if you have it, make sure they are unchecked. with win2k, i dont know of any other ways to change the volume except in the volume settings from the taskbar icon, the actual adjustment on the speakers, and if you go to control panel, then to sounds and multimedia properties, then you go the audio tab. you should have three sections there, sound playback, sound recording and midi music playback. check the three different volume buttons there, and make sure all of them are not totally up all the way, your prob might be there, other than that, i have no idea
