so im finally upgrading from a s775 65nm presler to core i7. which btw, is freaking awesome!

now i had traded for a visiontek 4850 (single slot) and was wondering if it shall be good enough for me. i dont really game alot, i play UT3, 2004, and GOTY, L4D, and any game that really seems intresting to me, crysis i had played but managed med-high settings on the old system. watch blu-rays/hd dvds the odd time, and encode the hd-dvd's so i can watch em on my ps3 (thats mostly cpu though...right?)

so is the 4850 a good choice, or should i get rid of it and go for a 4870 or a 260? or would getting another 4850 be a good boost if i have any problems in the next month or so (wont do it in 3+ months, not worth it)

Your 4850 should see you good for the time being. Iv'e also heard then when you crossfire two 4850's you get a good increase in performance, More so than if you crosfsire two 4870's for example. I would stick with the card you have and crossfire later if you need the extra power.

And yes encoding does use only the CPU. Atleast for now. Hope software starts coming out soon that will use the GPU instead tho. I would really like Nero vision to take advantage of CUDA on nVidia cards for example.

I was on Nvidias website and they show Nero using Cuda now.
Lemme find it.

Thanks for that link. Wonder why they didn't let nero vision use CUDA? I use vision quite a lot to encode and burn DVD's.

alright, might see about getting another 4850 when the price cuts come, mostly because i've messed around with SLi but not crossfire yet
