By far the most popular tool for modding is a dremmel, both cause there cheap, and very multipupose.

A dremmel, a drill, files, sandpaper (and an electric-type sander if you can afford it), jigsaw . . . Um . . . whatelse . . . Soldering iron, hot-glue gun. And i'm sure there are more I'm forgetting.

Dont forget about the safety glasses! You would atleast like to be able to see your work when you're finished.;)

if you're gonna install fans, get some hole saws for your drill

I think I read this here somewhere... but the perfect stencile for a 120mm fan hole is a CD?

haha! My dad invented those like a million years ago, but him and his friend pitched the idea to some company and they never went for it. He originally made them as "office stress relievers" to throw at irritating office mates......then years later, of course the company starts producing them!

This is VERY True..IMHO...you can do it other ways,,but a hole saw is the way to go...and SAFETY Glasses!..I cant stress this FACT enough..ALWAYS wear SAFTEY glasses, or goggles...ITS STUPID NOT TO WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN CUTTING ANYTHING!!!..Just remember..if you have the correct tools, your job will always go smoother and faster..heres a pic of my 2 120mm fans i put into my case door...only 5 mins of work with hole saws.....
[EDIT: yes CD's are a very good size for 120mm fans...CD's are SLIGHTLY larger then the last ring in a 120mm FAN GUARD...not enough room to slip a finger in...and yes...I have sliced my fingers more then once on spinning fans...]

That's the right kind of hole-saw... Just remember a drill can take a lot of abuse. You might ruin a good hole-saw bit though.

I love the dremel, but here's a picture of a couple nice modding tools.
Your probably confused by the pic... Click on this link, It's a really funny modding article.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAH . . .

that is THE BEST CASE MOD GUIDE EVER!!!!

(now to borrow some guns and a pickaxe to try it myself . . . maybe i should head down south . . . o wait, they might try to mod ME down there . . . )

Down South? Come up to North Idaho! More people up here have guns than down there. Go out to some hick town and carry around a sign that says "I wish I were Black" and see how long it takes to get shot.

edit: I'm not racist, I'm just stating that many people in this area are.

It's not stressful on the drill if you do it properly. Trick is to use oil to carry away the metal particles and remove the heat generated by cutting, and to go slowly. Automotive transmission fluid works really well.
