Hi everyone!

This is what I have:

Abit KR7A Non Raid
Athlon XP 1700+ CPU
2 Sticks of Crucial 256mb
ATI 64mb DDR Graphics Card
Maxtor 40gig 7200 Drive
Thermaltake Volcano 7 Heatsink
1030 Antec Case with 2 Intake, and 2 Exhaust fans
350Watt Enermax Psu

I recently increased my FSB to 150x11 and it has been stable.
I have my memory configuration as auto detect. I tried it with the faster settings but it wasnt stable. It kept rebooting at faster settings.
My CPU speed is set to fast, It couldnt handle Ultra.

I had to increase my Core Voltage to 1.85
I had to increase my Ram voltage to 2.75
My I/O voltage is still at 3.50

Using Winbond Hardware Doctor that came with my KR7A these are my current temps and voltage:

System 22C
Idle 43C
Full load 50C

Vcore 1.89
Vio 3.52
+5v 4.86
+12v 12.41
AGP 1.52
DDR 2.8
VSB 4.99
Vbat 3.20

Update:

After fiddling with the speed sensor on my Volcano I finally got it reconnected to run at 4900-5000 rpms (20mins of twisting very small wires)

I bought 2 rounded cables (I wish they were cheaper)

I bought coils to clean up my wires, and neatly tucked and taped.

I bought a Fan bracket with 2 80mm fans blowing on my Video Card, NIC, and Sound Card. These uses the air in the case, no cutting and it fits perfectly over the cards.

I even made a cardboard ramp to aim my bottom front 80mm intake fan to push air up towards my cards instead of the bottom of the case. Same idea from the link at this main site for focusing airflow.

After all that these are the results.

all my votages are still the same Vcore 1.85, ddr 2.75, 150 fsb x 11, 1700+ running at 1650

Idle 39C
Full 45C

I decreased my temps by 4-5 degrees

For me this is what i wanted without cutting and anything elaborate and im still running stable at 150x11.

Now only if you can go higher. I tried to go higher but it wont stay stable when i run my games. My bios is set at its lowest for memory and anything else important. I want to be running up to 1700, possible for me?

Has anyone else gone higher with a similar cooling setup?

I want to try the ducting idea, and i got dryer duct but how did everyone get it to attach to your heatsink? The volcano is a very big heatsink so i may have trouble making the duct fit.

If anyone can suggest any else for me to get faster speed or lower temps please share.

I did nice little duct dealy... it doesn't look so hot, and i'm sure it would work if my mobo could read temps properly, but that is a whole different story. Here are some pics, if you want a detailed description, just ask. The big fan has nothing to do with it.

This might be a problem for me.

I have an antec 1030 case and it has handle near the spot i would use a duct.

Maybe i'll have to find a better spot.

I like the use of cardboard, cheap is good.

I even bought a dremel lol. do you cover anything over your hole or have a fan in it?

I would like to hear how you did yours and your results.

Well, the results are difficult to measure because there is something seriously wrong with my temp sensor... It is always inbetween 49 and 51 degrees no matter what. The addition of the duct keeps the CPU temp at 49 more than it did before, if thats any consilation for you :). I had a handle in the way as well, but I just smashed it flat, upon retrospect I don't think that I really needed to do that but it works... I just cut an X shape in the box, and then folded in the tabs and stuck the cardboard onto the really pointy and dangerous spikes of metal sticking out. I have nothing in the whole, I didnt really think of putting anything in there, but I don't have an extra fan so I don't think i'll be doing that. The most time consuming part was measuring, so do good job doing that and everything else will fit perfectly. Any other questions just ask me...
Thanks
Will

Hi thanks for the tips.

I really like some of the laser cut fan grills so i will probably put that over the hole.

But for the placement and fitting the duct, that is another thing.

I have seen guys duct it from the top of the case and run it down.

I i need somthing that will fit over my heatsink, the volcano is so huge.

I might even use one of my exhuast fans to use change it around to intake to focus air on my cpu that way, since its alot closer and there is already a hole.

My case is pretty, i would hate to cut it up :) lol

Tried lapping it?

Add more airflow.

Hmm... PSU maybe a problem since its only 300watts.

ASII compound if you don't use that.

But if you add like 4 more 120mm's you can really lower the temps, and lap it and use ASII for a finish I'd think that would bring down your CPU temperature LOTS.

the lapping i havent tried yet, which i might if i have enough courage to take off the heatsink

the 120mm fans would be great but i dont have any place to put them, except for the side of my case

also wouldnt i have to have an equal amount going in/out?

i could get 80mm deltas but i hear they are really loud

im going to figure out this ducting issue

do you have a picture of your case?

do mean a picture or my case?

and you guys are both from ontario canada (me as well) what cities?
