Aside from one 9800gtx card which has 128 stream processors, all my other GPU2 folders are running 8800Gts(112) stream processors. Now, with the GTX 200 series(260, 280) becoming more affordable, I'm wondering this:
will the GTX 200 series cards produce correspondingly better (and thus justify) the higher price that they sell for?
How does a card, like this one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130464) with 192 stream processors, compare in PPD to the cards with 112/128 stream processors?

well the GTX line is also suppose to have tweaks to increase GPGPU work being done. not sure how much of a point gain you would see if you went with a GTX 260(192). i would expect something huge.. from what i have been able to see it really depends on the WU the GPU gets. the larger the WU the better the GPU does with more SP's. with medium ones well less SP's do better, etc with small WU's.
to bad you cant have WU's assigned by the number of SP's the card has. might be nice though as well to have the other SP's turn off when not needed to work on medium/small(er) ones more effectively.

I don't know how accurate the GTX260 and GTX285 numbers are. I got them from other people's posts in various forums. The 8800GT and 8800GTS numbers are from my own rigs.
511 pointers
8800GT.. = 3600 PPD
8800GTS = 4100 PPD
GTX260.. = 6000 PPD
GTX285.. = 6400 PPD
384 pointers
8800GT.. = 4700 PPD
8800GTS = 5500 PPD
GTX260.. = 7500 PPD
GTX285.. = 8000 PPD
1680 pointers
8800GT.. = 4600 PPD
8800GTS = 5400 PPD
GTX260.. = 6800 PPD
GTX285.. = 8000 PPD
Is it as simple as taking the average PPD of a card and dividing it by the price to get a number that is the PPD/Price? if so the 8800GT is still king, just not by much.

9800GX2 has to be fairly close, have seem them go for $225 or so.

Regarding the 8800GT: I have an opportunity to get one with 256mb of GDDR3...is that an issue with the current GPU2 WUs?

AFAIK there is still no difference in PPD between 256 and 512 8800GTs
If your gonna take up space and use the electricity...go with the 260 and up.
Sadder when you buy it....Happier every time it turns in a WU. 2cents:beer:

On the 260, Don't get the 192 SP cards. Get the updated 216 SP version.:)

How much ppd on average does a 9800gx2 get and same for the gtx295?
My 9800 GX2s are getting between 9-10K ppd. My GTX 295s are getting between 13-14K ppd with current WUs. If they got 353 pointers, it would be about 16K ppd.

Thanks to all for the input, it helped put things into perspective for shopping. :beer:
So far I've received 3 8800GTs(1 bought here on OCF-thanks homer77...will leave heat later on tonight) and the other 2 off ebay.
I'll be picking up several GTX260s in the coming weeks, as deals arise. ;)

evga superclocked 192 and a pny 9800gx2
my GX2 will get anywhere from 9500PPD to 11KPPD per GX2, depending on WUs. Lately it's been mostly 590x and 577x, not great, but decent.
With both GX2s, 4 GPUs, only one GPU won't do 1895 shader. :banghead:

My 192sp GTX 260 was doing 7200PPD on a P5904 WU when I looked last night.
