I just installed it, Its pretty fun I guess, but its not the realistic title we are all used to from Tom Clancy. It's pretty much an arcade shooter...all the planes handle the same, and you can carry 200 missiles...? oh well, its fun enough and the graphics are okay, just wasn't what Tom Clancy games are normally like.
its definitely an arcade shooter, quite disappointing really. i was hoping for somthing like falcon 4 or lock on at least. Hopefully they can use the same graphics engine later and make a combat flight sim.

IMO... ever since splinter cell came out. All of the other tom clancy series are just arcadish. I remember spending 1 hour before a mission in Rainbow 6 Gold Pack organizing my team, etc. Those were fun days. Setting up a mission and seeing it succeed just felt great. Too bad I lost that game...

I had the original Rainbow Six for playstation 1. Man that game was the best. You couldn't just beat any mission with any gun...if you were inside you had to take a light compact rapid firing gun, but if there were going to be many tangos, you would need something with stopping power. If you were outside, a longer ranged weapon would be in order.
I know just what you are talking about madhatter. I spent more time picking gear than I actually did playing the game. Rainbow Six Rouge Spear was another great title.. :)

The Tom Clancy name was sold I believe. Mostly garbage comes out with it now.
Hawx didn't even run in my machine, it just crashed and I uninstalled it afterwards, If it's an arcade shooter and not a combat flight sim like I was hoping it to be then I don't care.

Called it. UBISoft + Tom Clancy name = Guaranteed Crap of anything beyond Splinter Cell Chaos Theory.
Hurray for Gamefly. At least I dont feel like I wasted 50/60 bucks.

Yup, felt exactly the same.
There was an early thread on the Xbox version if anyone is interested: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=596237

Is anybody disappointed? I played the demo and it was an absolute JOKE.
I don't know what they were TRYING to do... but it didn't quite come close... to COMING CLOSE... to working out.
Actually, after playing for a bit on 360, and the demo on the PC. I like it, but granted I had no expectations ;) Good fun for blowing stuff up.

We are in dire need of some new combat flight sims though. Whatever happened to Jane's Combat Sims?

I don't find it bad. The assistance mode always reverting to the 3rd person is very annoying when you are using a flight stick. Overall it is a good game when I just want to blow stuff up.

Maddox that is what is needed an Upgraded Il-2 gfx engine in a realistic modern flight sim say Strike Fighters Project 2.0 and Global era maps Clancy comes up with mission scenarios drop his name on the pack and bang instant success. I love his books (not the ghost writers) and I expect a flight sim to live up to Red October or Red Storm. Got the PS3 demo fun but military sims really belong on the PC and that may be the problem as they are porting for the console audience as well and although some types of games are playable on a Console military sims are not one of those games.
yeah, even a COD4-like campaign with HAWX graphics and FSX physics (which can be turned off for those who like arcade) and a squadron vs squadron multiplayer dogfight or coop would be really nice. I'd vote for it as the best game of 2009 if something like that comes out. Then later they can make a WWII equivalent much like WaW. yeah, im asking for too much i know :)

It could have been decent. I love the Ace Combat games. I was hoping this was going to be like ace combat, but for PC. WRONG! Once again Ubisoft screws up.

i like the blowing stuff up part, and I can live with the unrealistic physics, but the payload is what made me mad. it makes the game seem like an old upright arcade machine when you can carry 200 missiles...it is fun to just blow stuff up though

this is what i keep hearing, and the planes all handle the same, ace combat is purely arcade but the planes act differently....all of them
Not really the planes actually do act differently. I dont mind it but it is hard to play with controller as the left thumb stick does all the moving. and for the 250 missiles?? well thats why it was called an arcade shooter.

I was really anticipating it but after playing the demo I decided to forego it. Ace Combat 6 was much better.
I'm actually just disappointed and disgusted with Ubisoft in general these days. The HAWX demo was pretty much the standard of what I've come to expect.

Where is it called an arcade shooter? Ubi calls it a flight simulation.

I am sorry but a flight sim is not possible without a good FCS these game pads dont cut it.

After further play I must say it look's great, the aircraft are awesome, the flight characteristics are greatly exaggerated, it is not a sim by any standard and it is a fun arcade level game.
I play it with my xbox 360 controller and its just perfect for the game :D It feels like a driving game (esp with the RT/LT as throttle and brake lol) and an FPS with missile launchers having a ton of ammo, and with total freedom to go anywhere and maneuver without worrying about gforces.

Single player got a bit boring but playing with a buddy rocks. Started speaking like we were in Top Gun :).

ROFL!
Its very funny that you mention that Gunlance, I lanned up with my buddy from across campus last night and we play HAWX for 4 hours straight lol! It was alot of fun co op. And we started acting like we were in top gun :D
It is def not a flight sim, but its a pretty fun arcade shooter
hehe, yeah it is pretty good and fun co-op. Just one thing i dont like about it is if it is set in 2014 then why have some planes dating back to 1980 i.e blackhawk??
