I have a Celeron 800 right now, and want to upgrade to a Pentium 3 processor. The Celeron wont OC worth a darned anymore. I used to be able to get it up to 1066 and run stabile, but after awhile it started freezing up during games. It is very well cooled and doesnt get above 40C. Anyhow, I want a P3. Is that cache woth it, or should I spring for a newer Celeron? Which P3 clocks the best? I wouldnt mind getting around a 700 if i could OC it to over a gig without getting lockups like i do with my 800. Thanks for any input  .

IMO, the 1000EB gives the best value for a P3 b/c of price and the 133FSB. Doesn't overclock the greatest but you can get it to 155FSB nicely w/ stock HSF which is quite large (assuming good OCing mobo and decent hardware).

FYI, wait till next week to buy due to Intel's price drop on the 27th.

I'm not up on Celery stuff but you may be able to stick a Tualatin Celeron in your mobo; need an adaptor methinks. Other people can better comment on this.

or you can get an old, used or stock-clearance PIII700E and run it at 933 at least at default voltage, esp if you can get the cC0 and cD0.

then after a while (say 6 months) get another even more dirt cheap PIII700E and also a dirt cheap ECS D6VAA and run your dualie at 933 min.

You can get a cD0 stepping P3 1000E at star-components.com for around $135. You will also need to get a good hsf because people have been getting real good overclocks out of them, mid 1200's to low 1400's. You could also get a 900 Celeron, guarranteed cD0 stepping as they didn't make them before the cD0 stepping. I've heard of them oc'ing in the 1200-1300 range.

Thanks, I had heard that the P3 700 would clock pretty well, but not the 900. As for the 1000, dont I have to look for the right one to get it to clock well? Thanks for the feedback.

All the flip chip P3 1000E procs are guaranteed to be a cD0 stepping as the cC0 stepping 1000E only came in slot1 form factor. These are the 100 fsb parts, not to be confused with the 1000EB, which were 133 fsb procs.
