Ok i been reading on what people have to say about the use of NB blocks. But first let me give you some back ground ever since i went to the 790i ftw dig board my temps have been through the roof imo. Here are my temps and note i'm not even over clocking on this board. CPU's 129.1, NB 152.6, board temp 87.0, GPU 90.0. The temps are all in F fahrenheit. I was thinking of a CPU and NB WC set up but i keep reading not to WC the NB.

That board runs really hot stock, and your chipset is only running 66c. That isn't too bad, mine was running 70+.
Do you have the fan on it?

yes the board come with a NB fan. See on my back up itel board..see i keep back up parts just incase. Any way with that board my cpu oc'ed don't get very warm at all.

I'll see if I can ask clearer. Do you have the NB fan installed on your 790i?

All the 790i boards come with a fan on the northbridge. So yes there is a fan.

All the 790i boards come with a fan on the northbridge. So yes there is a fan.Understood, just making sure. My 780i didn't come with it pre-installed, wasn't sure about yours.
You can switch it over to watercooling, but I think it would be easier to put a better/stronger fan on it. Someone with more experience with this board should be able to add more information than I can provide.

I will reboot and check my Nb fan speed it is pretty fast i think. will do after i finish up my I.T class paper.

Ok my NB fan runs between 4500 RPM to 4650 RPM.

RPM is not critical in this case more so the CFM rating of the fan ( cubic feet per minute )
Just a point when people say u shouldn't water cool your chip set , they say so because , its not usually necessary , but in your case it might be a good solution , if your cpu doesn't run hot enough , and u just don't want to shell out mucho denero to water cool your system larger fan might do the trick , also better air flow in the case , try re-seating the heat sink on the NB and reapplying thermal material after cleaning up old one ( only use none conductive stuff)

if you haven't changed the tim out yet do so. i dropped 10C(20F) just from changing the paste.
they put a ton of paste under there.

Yes i do know the meaning of CFM, but ty for for supplying full info on that just shows peoples will to help others. Air flow in my case is not a problem, and will RPM the higher speeds will cause more volums of air to come through. I'm not sure if i can replace my NB fan i have a zalman cnps9700 paste is AS5 i have reseated it 4 times not...been thinking of lapping the CPU. EVGA told me i could use AS5 on the Nb is i wanted to with out it voiding anything.

i was worried about that to but evga said i could. your aloud to change the cooling so you can change the paste.

Well i needed to do a reformat and while i was at it. I pulled the board and repasted the NB. and instead of 159-f it now idels at 140 and your right there was a crap ton on paste on both the NB and SB. For this i did use AS5 but i'm still kicking around the ideal to wc the NB. I would like to thank everyone for their input and help i'm liking this forums.

What is 159f? Can you move your measurements to C? C is the world standard on PC temps, it's better. Anyway, just a small input to make it easier on us.
WC the NB helps a lot on 775 platforms. Problems depending on your mobo setup. If the NB/SB/Mosfets are all connected by heatpipes it gets complicated since it all has to come off. If seperate, then your okay. Can ya post your mobo brand/number and a decent sized pic (not huge) so we can see what we can do for a solution?

yes even dropping to 60C still seems to high. mine sits at 40C
if thats his board its gonna be a pain to water cool. i would get some thermalright mosfet coolers and enzotek s/b heatsink/fan. then a Swiftech MCW30 for the n/b
i believe this is his board.

Thanks spawn, OMGoodness it's a pain like I was afraid of. Best bet might be removing the loud HS NB fan and ghetto a 80 mm on there. Also, have we talked about overall case air flow? Might be hot inside? OP? We talked about your case yet?
Make a sig with all your stuff, it helps.
I got one of these, it workes really nice, attach to a PCI holddown screw, it has 3 speeds and not really loud at all.

Gotta be careful on the TR mosfet coolers, they don't fit everything by a longggg shot.

Yes C might be standard but i have always hated the metric system i can try to remeber. But i may forget beause my out look. as for my air follow i would like to note i have never had any problems with heat on 680i or my A-BIT IP35 PRO and i was OC"ed to 4.0Ghz on those boards. I have mt heat sink firing right at the rear fan so the heat off that gets pulled right on out the case. My case is a full tower Holds 2 120mm fans and 3 80mm fans the 120mm fans are silverstone 110 CFM the 80mm fans are around 76 CFM i think. One thing i nocited when my best friend was over and i regreased the NB and SB, is the fan for the NB intake port faces the rear of my case and right in the part of the case it's trying to pull air from a vacum so to speak. I have couple ideals for changing that but will have to wait until after this next week. I have finales and the wife and kids demand alot of my time aswell lol. Can i ask is there a better heat sink than the 9700 zalman i have?
