Does anyone remember when Intel locked its multiplier? As far as I know, intel processors manufactured after September 1998 (week 40) are multiplier LOCKED. Can anyone with good memory could confirm this?

I am trying to overclock P2-333 SL2WY, week 48, Ireland to somewhere 400 - 450 MHz. My machine is "overclock unfriendly" Dell Rxxx aka. intel SE440BX. One thing to do it is using "B21" tricks and covering several VID pins to increase voltage up to 2.2 volts.

This overclock can be done if only the processor are NOT multiplier locked. This way, I can set the BIOS processor speed to 400 or 450MHz. :D Any suggestion?

233/266 were the last I know of with unlocked multipliers.

Just some of the early P-II's were unlocked. I was thinking the summer of 1998, but I don't remember for sure. I was also thinking in addition to some early 233 and 266 being unlocked that a few 300's were also unlocked. Don't know about any 333. Probably doubtful. Doesn't hurt to try it though. Plug it into the mobo and try setting the multiplier up one notch. If it's locked, it just won't boot.

I know for sure that some 266 were unlocked and 300 I believe was also unlocked. I dunno about 333

Just know where your cmos reset jumper is before you switch the multiplier

P2 233 - All of the early ones weren't locked, and the later ones were locked.

266-300 lots of them were locked only like 20% of them were unlocked.

I didn't know that some of the P2 300 were unlocked. I'm gonna try the multiplier and see. Wish me luck! :D
