Well everyone here is my first computer dedicated strictly to folding and running on an OS bootable from USB and runnable from GUI.
This unit is running Linux Slax on a p4-479m@1.4ghz with 512ddr2 and a
200w 20pin psu that i modded to 24pin microatx.

Slax and Ubuntu are verry interesting and powerfull Os's for folding, slax being the easyiest to setup and download and run from usb. Ubuntu can be installed inside a windows partition and Doubleboot to either Os and much more.
Information on Slax can be found here
http://www.slax.org/
and information on Ubuntu witch can be downloaded in either 64 or 32 bit. (check processor compatability with cpuz and intel before 64bit)

Nice work. Many here are running linux to fold under but they are virtual machines so a little different.
I think you could make that a small footprint by making a little ghetto plexicase to have psu under the mobo. Talk about a small setup.

well you dont need a virtual machine to fold,, only for Gpu folding I have figureded so far.
Linux software for Cpu folding is easly downloaded and ran from Stanfords site.
I've only been playing with this a few days but as few as I have found out Gpu folding with linux is next to impossible withought extensive knowlage in the linux OS. CPU folding under linux though is incredably efficant though and producecs comparable PPD to GPU clients.

I agree. With the minute overhead in linux its perfect. I ran a standalone linux bootable iso to fold.

You would be even better of running Notfreds Diskles Client with the USB stick on that set-up you have there.
Have also ran Slax6 on one of my older P4's too not a bad distro either,

Hmm, about a week playing with linux here to tell you the truth, but I will look into that! :)
Here is a pic with it running on the Slax OS, I have the VGA cable for the Microatx and the DVI for my main rig both ran to my monitor so I can switch from that and just plug a mouse into the micro.

Nice and small, you could set up a whole bunch of those in not too much space
whats the PPD on that anyways?

LOL I plan on it! I have a whole bunch of old systems here im gonna set up eventually.
Not shure on the PPD with this one yet though, it was assigned core A0 with about 1.5million steps witch i think will take it about two days. should be done with that core tomoro or the day after and ill let you guys know.

Fahmon will give you a quicker turnaround on the PPD. Its not much, but any crunching is wanted and helps this noble cause.
Keep it up!

You were right! Fahmon was verry easy to download and setup with this version of Slax I downloaded with Wine incorperated into the build. I downloaded the windows version and installed it under the wine interface.
To tell you the truth i was expecting a little more but from what it shows the core will only give me 225 points and take about 3 days to complete but there couldn't be much more expected of the P4-1.4m.
This was origanally an experiment to see if I could resurect a dead MOBO by splicing and converting powersuplys from a funky micro atx2.0 to an atx 1.0 at the same voltage. (>150w LOL)
I have tried a pin mod with the old celeron m 1.4 already but didnt seem to do anything. (that can be discused somewhere else)
heres where you can get slax, just be shure to add wine to the build.

heres where i found the pinouts for atx powersuply crossconversion by splice.
