so i have the Dtek Fuzion V2 and it comes with the pro mount and uni mount. i opted for the uni mount as i can remove the block with no worried of the back plate falling or what not.

i recently saw a picture in the classifieds of someone with the threaded rods from the uni mount in the back plate. i checked mine and sure enough i could use both the back plate and uni mount.

1. outside of it being better for my motherboard, would i see a temp decrease?

i'm just wondering if its worth my time ripping my board out and adding it. i have a feeling it won't make much difference.

thanks.

You might see a temp decrease simply because a greater pressure against the cpu should mean more TIM squeeze-out and a tighter contact. Always a plus even if you don't see much temp drop, it should mean at least a tighter delta.

I would do it personally, it's a decent project on a Sunday. You can add a needed dusting off of any heatsinks and fans while you're at it.

On the other hand, using just the through-bolts has suited users for years. I've run three systems like that over the years of my long term addiction.

I have to go another route myself, my little board has a 3/4" square IC in the middle of one of the backplate's legs for my new V2. A little re-engineering is called for. I'm thinking of attaching my through bolts directly to the mobo mounting plate with a couple of plastic standoff's directly under the core to stop bowing. I'm building the case, so it's no big deal to add 6 holes to the mobo mount.
I might even make a 1/2" pvc ring the thickness of the rest of the standoffs heights, so pressure is more evenly distributed vs two plastic standoffs.

I did somewhat the same thing here:

Works like a charm.

And yes, more pressure is always better. I'm not sure if it's going to be enough to be worth the effort, but if you'd like, you can take the opportunity to put a couple of tabs of double sided tape on the back plate to prevent it from falling off when you unscrew the block. That's typically what I do. Not enough to permanently stick it, but just enough to prevent it from falling off.
