I have a bunch of old stuff lying around and the question that pops into my head is this... Is it possible to run multiple PCI based video cards? I could get an old Semprom chip running windows with 5 Nvidia based cards up with a gpu client on each.

The cards have to be 8XXX and above.

I don't think any of the 8xxx series cards were made on PCI.

Well, they aren't worth it on a price/performance scale, but Sparkle makes 8400GS/GT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048%201069609642%20106791921&name=GeForce%208%20series)
and 9400GT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048%201069609642%20106792522&name=GeForce%209%20series) cards on a PCI interface.

Surprised the heck out of me to find them. Especially since there are none that are AGP.

those 8400's are the ones I was looking at Outback. I have the grand majority of the other parts. Prolly need to get a beefy power supply and new motherboard with the available PCI slots. Just thinking that i could put together a monster number cruncher for cheep. Tried running the GPU client on my Vaio AR520E, but temps got out of hand. Sure did crank out some PPD tho.

these would still need some wicked cooling, the 8400's are a g82 core last i checked and most have had the expansion problem.

I think for the cost of a bunch of those you could buy a $99 frys combo and a 8800GT and get better PPD.

For example, one 8400gs = 600ppd. One 8800GT = 6,000ppd.

I'd definitely recommend to go with SuperMotarded's advice.

Seriously man... look at what a ~$50 (used) 9600GSO/8800GS will pull:

May want to seriously consider that route. The 8400GS is about the same price and will only make 1/10th the ppd.
