Hi everyone, first time poster here!

Basically i'm debating with myself whether the extra ~$80 extra for a GTX295 is worth it over a 4870X2...? I plan to be playing recent games (Empire total war, crysis etc etc) on my 37' full-HD screen. So basically what im asking is: "will the 4870X2 be more then enough or will the 295 be worth the extra $$$?"

The rest of my computer specs are:
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L
PSU: Coolermaster 700w Silent Pro
CPU: Q9550
RAM: Corsair DDR2 4g

Any comments would be lovely!
Thanks in advance to repliers :-)

I have an x2 and cant complain at all. I game at 1920x1200 and it plays everything I have thrown at it (Far Cry 2, Crysis, CoD 4 and 5, Assassins Creed and Cryostasis) all with max settings and get more than adequate FPS.

I have long been an nVidia supporter and will buy from them again, but for the price, the x2 is the best out there right now to me.

Obviously the 295. Its not gonna be until the new ati cards come out will there be an actual competition between the 2

Yeah without a doubt the GTX295 in every benchmark iv seen the GTX295 destroys the 4870X2, unless you go to a resolution like 2560X1600 AKA a 30" computer monitor in witch the 4870X2's extra memory kicks in.

considering that full hd is *only* 1920 by 1080, the HD 4870x2 would more than suffice.

unless it's some sort of benchmarking contest the gtx 295 is really going to just push the frame rates up. unless it's crysis you should be fine with most games and details cranked right up. i can easily do far cry 2 with 4x anti aliasing on a 1080p tv, with my rig. looking at around 50fps, which isn't bad (i turn on vsync, stops tearing)

It really sucks that either nvidia ran out of space on the cards for a full 2gb's or they just didn't spend the time to redesign the cards, just stuck two 285's together.

Of course they did. Look at the brilliant marketing of the GTX250...
