I'd like to *not* be reminded of what just happened, any way to disable this from popping up:

Yeah, fix your drive

chkdsk /F

or in worse circumstances chkdsk /X /R

Both require reboot. I think X implies R but I add it for safety. Might make the message go away by adding stability where there is bitrot, but it's not a permanent fix.

Killing the error reporting service might do it. Not really sure on that, never seen the message be persistent.

Control Panel | Problem Reports and Solutions | Change settings | Advanced settings | Under "For my programs, problem reporting is:", select the Off radio button.

↑ Thank you so much.

And by the way to other poster, I simply wanted to turn off the notification, I know what was causing it: I tried to test a video capture card and its drivers and software wrecked havoc on the system.

Off topic:

Here were the choices of 2009 video capture PCIe cards:
• AVerMedia: http://www.avermedia-usa.com/AVerTV/product/ProductList.aspx?IID=5
• Hauppauge: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/prods_hvr_internal.html
and
• ATi: http://ati.amd.com/products/multimedia.html

I avoided Avermedia fearing exactly what happened to me with Hauppauge. Testing Hauppauge's flagship PCIe capture card WinTV-HVR-2250, I found out the hard way that it:

• Cannot capture uncompressed .avi video
• Cannot capture uncompressed audio
• Although there is a grayed out .ac3 capture option, this card does not capture .ac3 audio
• The input volume is low, certainly lower than it should be with no way to adjust it in options, users resort to registry hacks, none of which worked for me.
• The drivers are buggy, blue screens of death.
• The card does not appear to be able to capture constant bit rate of above 6,000 kbps.
• When researching the card on other forums, the constant theme is how users have to spend *days* of their time trying to set up basic options.
• Actual process of setting bit rates is so needlessly complex, if there were awards for making things difficult for end users... this would then be an award-winning card.

I'm going to try ATi next.

Good luck with the ATI. An older capture card is what turned me off to them forever. I've never seen such a hacked together buggy mess in my life.

A pin on my old ATi AIW9600XT connector cable (not the card) on the connector cable itself broke and it's cheaper to get another card then it is to just get a replacement cable to connect the thing to a monitor. :screwy:

But as difficult as it was, I figured ATi out, details:
