I don't know what forum I need to put this in, but this is my problem. I got ViewSonic A75f monitor, it's flat screen. My desk top is taking all screen, but soon is I go in to the game it's shrinks, and gives me 3/4 inch black frame all the way around. It's like my picture gets smaller for some reason, and it's for all the games. Any ideas?? My system info on the bottom.
Thanks.
Pete.

I'm guessing the game you're playing runs in a resolution other than your desktop. Or maybe the refresh rate changes, like trap said. Your monitor (my Viewsonic does) has separate settings for each resolution / refresh rate combionation - so you'll have to manually go to monitor controls and stretch the picture to fit the srceen for every such combination you use.

In my desk top I use 1024 768 @ 32 bit, and refresh is 75. For games I use same thing.
Some games have the option to change res in the game don't overlook this.

In games I use same res is my desktop. 1024x768 @32 75MHz. And it's just all the games, and 3DMark doing the same thing.
Please make it stop.

I don't know a whole lot about this monitor stuff but have you tried using a different video card with the same monitor? Also do you have the latest drivers for your video card and monitor? I know when i used one of the beta drivers nvidia released it screwed up my monitor pretty bad so i had to go back to the older ones. Once the official version of that driver was released though it worked fine.

I had old, and new drivers for vid card and the monitor, but it's not changing anything. It did that with my old Voodoo4, the same thing. I think it's just the monitor, or??? But WHY!!!!!!

When you first boot up or go into your bios does that screen fill the entire monitor or is it just when you get to windows that the screen looks normal?
Sometimes there are software controls to change the image size and shape in Windows but when it goes to a game you get the original, unmodified version. I had problems with that with some monitors at work.

In DOS it's got the same problem. What monitors you got at work?? Because I got two monitors, on ATI 8500, dual had, it's ViewSonic A75f and G773, and all of them same ****

How did you fix that???

I think they were SIS cards in the pc's, but it has been some time since I fixed them.
I believe what I did was went to a dos prompt or the bios screen and then made adjustments on the monitor to get it where it should be. After that was set to the way I liked it I then went to the Windows destop and then went into the software controls which I found in the driver section or someplace like that.
There were arrows to change the size and positioning and I used those controls to get the Desktop where I liked it. I don't think I was ever able to get it quite perfect, but it was close enough.
Sorry for the sketchy information but it was a while ago. I hope this helps you.

Thanks for the info, I'll try that when I get home. In BIOS wher do you do that, if you remember.
Thanks.

Also have you tried messing with your refresh rates? I seem to remember having to do that as well in order to get the two views in the same ballpark.
Speaking of refresh rates are you haveing trouble getting your card to change refresh rates? My Radeon VE will not change refresh rates. It says it does but it really doesn't do anything. I saw that this was a problem on ATI's website. They said the newest drivers were supposed to fix it, but it hasn't for me.

BIOS is the fist thing your pc reads when you boot it up. Usually as your pc is going through POST it will display something like "press delete to enter setup" or something like that. However as long as you press delete, F1, or F2 while POST is checking your RAM (while the number is counting up) you will enter the BIOS screen. Don't wory about it if you can't get there, just use the dos screen and adjust your monitor then.

I know how to get to BIOS, but wher you change your video settings in there?? I been there 100's of times and never seen them. Or wher in DOS? I don't have any problem changing my refresh rates.

Oh... lol, sorry about that...
I mean just use the buttons on your monitor to adjust it using the bios/dos screen as your guide. This will put Windows desktop way out of center/size but then while in windows go to your desktop settings and look for software controls in order to recenter end size the desktop. It is usually on a tab supplied by the adapters driver. I am hopeing you have these.
Any way that is how I was able to fix the ones at work, which is where I am now.:D
