Is this possible? My dell came with a 32 bit version and since ive upgraded the amount of ram and installed a new video card id like to move on to a 64 bit OS to benifit from all these upgrades.

So is there any way for me to get my hands on a 64 bit windows for free or cheap?

AFAIK only Vista Ultimate comes with both version. Not sure about the business version. You would need to contact Dell if the OS came with the machine and ask them if the 64bit is available with it.

I know the retail versions come with a slip that says you can mail Microsoft and pay the $10 shipping / handling fee for a copy of 64 bit of all non-Ultimate versions. Ultimate comes with both 32 and 64 bit versions included, as CGR pointed out. I agree you need to contact Dell and see if they will ship you an OEM 64 bit copy.
