I'm a newbie to PC upgrading but after reading this forum for about 2 months now and taking off the side of my PC I'm quite interested in playing around with it. Here is my question "I have a Dell desktop i would like to add more RAM to do i have to buy exclusively dell memory or can i buy other name brands?" The computer is a PC800 Rambus system if that helps.
Thanks for all your help and i cant wait to build my first PC this summer during co-op.

Welcome to the Forums
PC800 Rambus is a type of memory, so you should be able to use any brand of PC800 Rambus memory.
Do you know the Dell model numder of the machine is just to be sure you can use different types of memory.
You would probally get more answers to this if you post it in Memory section. One off the mods might move it for you ... hint hint.

That's what I'm going to do too.
Red Hot Machine's correct though, any RAMBUS memory should be fine as long as it's the correct rated spec for your PC. Dell would always like you to purchase their upgrade for your PC just so they can make the profit, however.

Thanks everyone. I'm thinking about adding 1MB of PC800 to my remaining two free slots. So according to what i have read about Rambus i have to buy two sticks of 512 MB each of ECC ram. Do either of you guys have any suggestions on which namebrand would be a solid purchase and who i could get it from that i can trust implicitly. Any and all suggestions are welcome and i thank all whom have helped me so far. Im just sorry i havent gotten involved in the PC mod process earlier.

Don't think you can really go wrong when it comes to RAMBUS...there's just not many manufacturers for it. I would choose according to price if it were me.
Micron is always good and Samsung looks to make good RAMBUS memory. Like I said though, can't really go wrong.
