I've been reading that the seagate drives (that particular model) seem to fail. Although this hasn't happened to me, i would not like it if any of those drives fails once they have been populated. I plan on using intel matrix raid and was wondering if i should just get another one of the WD drives.

Any of you run into issues with the seagate drives?

Thanks.

I have had two of those drives fail on me. Both were in a 4 drive Raid-5 setup on an Intel ICH10r in an ASUS P5Q-E board. BUT both of them failed at different times and they failed during a power surge/momentary blackout. I have since learned my lesson and bought a honkin' UPS that cuts in on even the slightest of power fluctuations. I was running with cache enabled AND enhanced performance turned on.

Was using a good power supply at the time as well, Corsair TX750. I don't blame the drives though, only the power in my building, and not reading the warning in device manager that states running in enhanced mode can cause data loss if not backed up with a UPS.

I returned both drives to seagate via RMA (and an olde 300 gig sata drive i had kicking around as well). Got them back in 10 days and no trouble since. I suspect that they got hit while writing to the MFT.

I still stand by seagate, easy rma process, nice set of free tools for migration, and they are able to be set to sata I (150) mode for external e-Sata enclosures, legacy hardware.
