Hello all. Great message board you have here. So much information to read for me. I have been overclocking for a while and I am ready to enter the world of water cooling. This is my first post too.

I decided on a koolance case for ease of use. My question is what mobo and cpu combo would overclock the best for the most reasonable amount of money?

It is a gaming machine and I have most of the other parts including: GF3, Xgamer sound card, 40 gig western digital drive, 19 inch viewsonic PF 790, burner, power supply and floppy.

I guess I also need a Raid controller card for an extra HD. I will use my 40 gig for my music files. Also need memory to match the mobo and cpu combo. I want to pick up 1G of memory. I am using windows XP so it should utilize it. I will pick out a DVD rom for watching my movies later.

I am torn between the P4 and Athlon XP. BUT... with this extreme cooling, doesn't the P4 overclock much farther? And isn't there a new P4 that uses a new chipset now out?

Thanks for your help guys.

Shoudl be in AMD or Intel processor section, but you are new and forgiven. I would go with AMD...cheaper, very overclockable, and are better (benchmark tests) then P4's, even tho the P4 is at a much higher clock. Go with the Athlon XP 1800+, people have gotten GREAT ocs with this chip.

Hope this helps

i would have to agree with rezman on the choice of using an AMD. you will get a better performance to price ratio than that of an intel chip. if you go to the amd site you can see benchmarks of the amd xp 2000 and p4 2.0 ghz. it was done by a freelance person so there was no bias opinion on it. the amd chip beat out the p4 chip in most of the tests, especially gaming, which is what you're looking for.

for mobo i would have to choose something that would be an easy overclock but yet stable. i would go with epox or asus. do the research.

I have a azus A7m266 in my work CPU. I love it. I would love to use another. What is their new board? And what can I expect to get outto of a Xp 1800 - 2000 for a overclocked speed.

I didn't know if i should put this tread in the general or the athlon or the intel subgroups?

Thanks all

this should probably be posted in general hardware. you really can't expect how much of an overclock your gonna get. it all depends on your whole entire system

this is my 187 post...

The new one is the A7M266-D
this boaed i warn is for the enthusiast with mucho denairo.
Its a dual cpu board and the cpus meant for it are about 160 bux for the 1.6 ghz model.. but it oc's beautifully and i have one of the 1.2 ghz MP (the ones it takes) and it oc's to 1.6ghz.

ok I will research that one? I am assuming it runs XP chips? Also can i put a XP chip into my work mobo of Asus A7M266?

Also my wife has the asus 200 mhz board. I wonder if I can put a athlon XP into that and just set the bus speed at 133 or higher? I think she has the first slot A board asus made. I forget the model. I have to look. T

Thanks for all the help all....
