drive question

just got this new build together a few days ago.

running windows vista 64-bit
hard drive-western digital caviar black wd1001fals 1tb 7200 rpm sata 3.0gb/s.

optical drive-lite-on combo black sata model dh-52c2s-04

This is my first build so im new at this.
my new pc is working fine (no problems)

here is my question?
in windows vista at my desktop screen
i see in the tool bar at the bottom right of the screen

SAFELY REMOVE HARDWARE (says this when i put the curser on it)
if i double click it,it takes me to a screen that shows a usb plug at the top.
and is showing my hard drive and optical drive in there.

at the top of the page it reads this:SELECT THE DEVICE YOU WANT TO UNPLUG OR EJECT AND THEN CLICK STOP.
WHEN WINDOWS NOTIFIES YOU THAT IT IS SAFE TO DO SO UNPLUG THE DEVISE FROM YOUR COMPUTER.

Is my new build reading these as external devices?
how can i fix this if it is?
ordered my parts from newegg,all i did was plug these drives in and that was it,did i forget to do somthing?

can anybody help me with this problem,i just dont know what to do!

i just tryed to update both of these and says both drive and dvd rom are up to date.

also says both are working properly.

It's normal, SATA is hot-swappable so it sees them as removable devices.

what will happen if sombody uses my pc and gos into this and gets rid of these devices,CAN I TAKE THIS OUT OF THE TOOL BAR<AND HOW DO I DO THAT?

I believe that you are running an nvidia board? if you remove the sata controller drivers (part of the chipset), you won't have the option to unplug them.

You could do this also
