i am having a windows 98se install problem, i finished assembling my first computer, got everything together no problem, i got a used harddrive that had been formatted and had absolutly nothing on it, i put my windows 98 boot disk into the floppy and cd into the cd rom, i turned on my computer and all it says it

invalad system disk, replace the disk and then press a key


am i doing something wrong???

how do i install windows 98se on a blank harddrive???

Go into the bios and check the boot order. You can tell the machine in what order it should look for boot drives.

Well I don't really see anything wrong in your process. Just check your cables for your floppy drive and your hard drive. Make sure your BIOS can see those two drives. Then I'd check your boot disk. If possible go to another machine and make a differnt boot disk from that one just to see if you didn't get a bad floppy or something.

Just boot off of the cd, set that up in the bios boot order.

it is currently set to boot in this order

cd rom, c, a

should i change it to a, c, scsi??

that is the only one in my bios that the a drive comes first

I am curious why it won't boot from the cd rom, try the floppy first.

foulder, setting it to boot off the cd worked and i am installing windows right now

See if you can set it to A, CDROM, C If you have a bootable cd you don't need to put in the floppy. If your cd isn't bootable then you will need the floppy and also doble check and make sure your floppy is good.

i think it wasn't working because i was putting in both the cd and the floppy
