Hi,

well i am planning to get a new proc the E8400, i've got a video card evga GF 9600 GT sli and a cooler Silent Knight that i hope could be well used on my new E8400 for some OC.

I would like to know if you guys could recommend me some good mb that maybe support 1.333 for ram and have SLI support.

I was hoping the mb would have 2 network ports GigE but if it does not have it is ok.

I might need a new PSU aswell so if you guys could possible recommend me some good ones :) that would have a 26 amps for my video card and would support the rest.

Thanks everyone.

i found this mb Asus P5N-D and was wondering if anyone could give me any feedback on it.

thanks

If you absolutely have to keep SLI then than Asus board would be good I suppose, I'm just not the biggest fan of nvidia chipsets. Both of the boards I currently run will do well over 500 fsb with good ram (which you would need for the 8400 if you want decent clocks) but are intel based = no SLI. Couldn't you sell the 9600GTs for the cost of a single 4870 and then grab another one later? I'd be curious to see if the single 4870 would out perform your current sli cards as well.

where do you live and how much do you have to spend?

Brazil, i have about $800 to get the proc, mb, and psu. I was planning to keep only the video card, cooler, and ram from the my signature.

Most websites such as newegg does not ship to brazil and ever if they did it, i would have to pay shipping plus country taxes so i am not really sure if it would be that cheap at all.

So it would be parts + 60% of the price declared on the parts, but that is if someone brings it to me, and the 60% would be paid only if they stop him at the airport wich does not happen that often.

Using a transport company FEDEX, UPS or whatever i would probabilly pay the item price if it costs more then $50 with shipping. So if i spent 150$ i would pay 300$ or even a little more plus the shipping.

SLI is not a must i would love a really good mb that i could play some OC for a long time that would fit well for c2d and c2q.

Thanks everyone for the inputs i am looking forward to hear more from you guys.

well if the prices are 1:1 from USA to brazil then imo that board is way overpriced. i mean for $220 you could get a i7 gigabyte X58-DS3R SLI board then just get a i7. either hit it up from ebay or find a place that would give a discount for a mobo/cpu combo or something. right now the lowest i7 is the 920 which is still around $289US.

i wouldnt consider SLI as you can get one good single card that would out do the SLI to begin with.

i would do something like this for $800
E8400=$165,Gigiabyte EP45-UD3P=$135,Corsair 650TX=$99, that right there comes to $399. then i would get either a GTX260(sp216)=$179 or a GTS250/512mb=$129 or GTS25/1gig=$149 or 4580/512mb=$129 or 4580/1gig=$158. making your $800 more then enough to fit in a much better video card then SLI'ing 9600GT's.

wow that was something :) thanks a lot for your feedback.

Are there any good mb for i7 that will support both SLI and xfire or should i go all for xfire ?
I think i will change everything to i7 xD ... does any mb for i7 support ddr2 or are all for ddr3 ? most that i saw at newegg are ddr3 triple channel so i will assume that i will need some new ram too...

What sort of configuration of i7 would you do with up to 1000$ ?

About the video card should i just get a really good one or keep my 9600 gt get a real good geforce and setup the sli... like the ones you recommended.

i7 920,Gigabyte X58-DS3R sli(cheapest SLI+CF board*all the rest do CF,for cheaper*), right you would need new ram. though i would suggest getting the X58-UD4P but its $259 vs $209. the i7 has a IMC or onboard memory controller it only does DDR3. there are 3x1gig kits for around $50 at newegg at DDR3-1333 cas7. right there in just cpu/mobo you have spent over 50% of you budget. your looking at $499 for the 920+UD4P or $549 for the 920+DS3rR*SLI*, then say $60 for 3x1gig DDR3-1333 cas7 ram + 179 for the GTX260, then the psu. now your up to rough est. $837 with the DS3 or $887 with the UD4P. then if you plan to oc the i7 i would spend or leave some $$ open for a thermalright ultra120 or other highend air... personally i would go with a wcing setup and rig at $887. wcing can get costly, but i suggest doing it right the first time so you may or may not have any left up to your $1k.

hmm well i just looked and so far in crysis sli'd 9600gt's would be better then some of the cards i listed.

its interesting how it barly beats out the GTX260....
check out this link for other games/benches.

i suggest you base the choice off the games you play as to which route to go..

if you really just bought another 9600GT buy a 3x2gig kit of DDR3-1600, found a good one for $150. you still have plenty of money to either get a SSD for your os drive or to spend a bit more and watercool the cpu and both gpus.

Damn i can't find any DS3R at newegg... :/ did you saw one around there ?

Also what memmory would you recommend me, there are so many of them for 150$ triple channe 3x2GB that i can't decided due to my lack of experience with memmory :p

Anyway to understand the best setup from my budget would be then:
GTX260 (179$) + i7 920 (290$) + X58-UD4P (260$) + Corsair 650TX (99$) + 3 x 2GB DDR3-1600 (150$)

Total: 978$

Only found DS3R lga775 at newegg guess i am out of luck....

Once again thanks a lot man, i am starting to buy the i7 parts :p just got the proc few minutes ago ...

o wait they aren't the DS3R it is the UD3R

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128386
sorry thought it was DS3R...

one kit would be this one at $100
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231247
but if i were to by new tri-kit it would be this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145224

right i would go with the parts you listed out... but like i pointed out you could get the 9600GT for sli and have slightly better fps. though i have read about micro-stuttering with sli/cf setups...

Could you possible point what was the brand of the GTX 260 that was costing 179$ or was it a mail in rebate ?

:p well thanks a lot for this topic once again ... i am almost done buying the part all what is left now is the new video card xD

Thanks xD +3 days for the video to arrive i will be able to mount everything
