They too confirm that 1 Ghz on the core is possible on stock cooling and volts. So, the stock card beats the GTX 285 on multiple tests, and OCing gives it the edge over the latter. I think the GTX 275 will deliver similar performance, but the question is when and in which quantities the card will be available. Even as of today, the HD4890 is readily available here in Europe.
Another highlight is that the HD4890 consumes less power than the HD4870, and it runs much cooler as well.

Sweeeet! It's nice to see a card that not only performs better, but also uses less power and overclocks better as well. The best part is that ATI has a single core GPU that beats Nvidia's best single core GPU. That doesn't happen very often. I smell a GTX 285 price cut in the near future :)

Could we keep these in one thread, there are like 20 reviews up already there is no need for a new thread for each. Another thread. (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=601732)

Any ideas why this review should be biased?

I've never seen anyone question the legitimacy of xbitlabs before. It is a pretty good website. But the numbers for the 4890 do look a little high. Anandtech shows that when the 4890 beats the 285 it's only by a few frames but xbitlabs has a much larger margin. I noticed xbit is using 182.08 while anandtech was using the new 185.65 drivers.

That's because XBitLabs is using a 4890 OC edition instead of the standard 4890. The 4890 OC edition is an ATI-sanctioned part (unlike the pre-OCed NV parts) that runs at 900MHz. It's basically the "XT" version.
xbit isnt using 185.65 or 9.4beta

Yup, Ati has given the go for up to 900 Mhz I believe.

Oh that makes sense. It sure is impressive how much overclocking helps that card.
