Hey folks ! I have a clumsy old intel 200 mhz mmx processor, and seems everything these days requires a much higher mhz rating, although I don't have the money to upgrade my system, (been disabled from a work related injury for 3 years now), I sure could use some suggestions on how to speed this thing up. I have built a few of my own computers, but I guess just about anybody can swap boards around on a motherboard, i lack the expertise of tweaking the system around to get it running faster. Actually I've never tried to o\c anything ! HELP ! Any performance increase would be appreciated ! Thanks, cYa later !

Go into your manual and look for the jumpers which adjusts from the FSB and multiplier from there you can overclock as the old systems uses jumper settings.

Your not on a branded computer right?

Default settings for your P-200 is 3X66=200 (3X is the multiplier and 66 is the FSB or frequency). Most of those old socket 7 motherboards that support MMX processors will have a jumper setting for at least 3.5X. Figure out what jumpers to change and you have an easy 233 MHz overclock. Next, find out if your mobo has higher FSB settings. Some of the old Cyrix CPUs back then used 75 MHz. If you luck out and can raise the FSB to 75, then you'll have an overclock of 262.5 MHz (3.5X75). I'd put a fan on the heatsink before overclocking (if it don't already have a fan, most P-200 usually do). Good luck.

One thing to watch for with those old pentium mmx procs is that Intel first started implementing the multiplier locks sometime during the pentium mmx run. I used to have a pentium 200mmx proc that wasn't multiplier locked and the fastest I ever got it was 263 mhz. The later mmx procs did have a multiplier lock which prevented going higher with the multiplier, but you could drop the multplier back. I have a pentium 233 mmx chip sitting in a drawer that is like this. Realistically, you will probably have trouble getting over 300 mhz out of 1 of those old chips. Also, spend $10 or so for a cheap Athlon cooler for the proc and you should be able to keep it nice and cool.
