In the process of flasing my burner i accidently flashed my dvd rom(creative 12x) with my burners firmware. I tried to use a program called upgrade while in dos to reflash it, but when it gives me the option of where to flash it to, it autromatically skips giveing me the choice and stops the program saying invalid command, anyone have anyideas what to do?
Do you know if the drive was actually flashed? Even if it is you can probably just find the ROM for the DVD drive and flash it using the same program. Tell me what the drive does?

well, I can't get my computer to boot when the drives plugged in. its sits at the windows xp screen and the bar just moves forever, and every 5 seconds or so theres some HD activity, but its an exact pattern over and over. I tried using the firmware flasher that I found for a creative DVD drive, but it didn't work right, and the one that i used to accidently flash it is a single exe with the firmware in it so I can't change it back.. hope that answers your questions.

When ever I do something "dangerous" like flashing firmware of fdisking, I usually disconnect the other drives to keep me from being stupid. Don't feel bad, guess how I learned to do this.
In your case I recomend you disconnect the burner and other drives (except the floppy) while you try to fix the DVD.

Doesn't help if you start a flame war either.....be nice even tho someone else isn't.
Perhaps this is the measure we should go by to figure out who to ban from the boards? Post a story that should invoke sadness and teamwork to solve, then wait to see what jackass from another forum comes here and acts like a ...well... like a jackass.

fiveohhh which DVD drive do you have (1240E, 1241E, 1242E or 1243E)?
You probably can find that info on the sticker which is on top of the DVD Rom. (If there's a code behind it (like C01) write that down as well).

You could try MTKFLASH (attachment), disconnect the CDRW and put the DVD on the secondary IDE (I believe 'master' works best).
I couldn't find much/any info bout this prog, and I don't have a Creative drive so I wasn't able to test it.
If it doesn't work I have a few other options, one of these options is:
E-mail Creative and tell them your problem (I know their support sucks but I've read about one guy that tried to flash his drive, failed, and got a replacement).
Try these first, cuz the other options are not that easy and they ain't free.
KILLorBE is that program supposed to be a universal flash program. If it is I'm very interested.

Well finally decided to put some effort into trying to get this thing to work, and after a while Finally got it figured out, first command in mtkflash was mtkflash 4 w /b bide00.bin, and the second one took me a bit to get, but i figured it out mtkflash 4 w /a1 /b bide01.bin
Thanks for all your help, and just wanted to tell you that i figured it out and how incase anyone else has a similiar problem
