The April folding contest PART#4 has officially been extended until June 30th 11:59:59 PM Pacific time.


BY POPULAR DEMAND, ALL CONTEST REQUIREMENTS HAVE BEEN HALVED FOR EVERYBODY!!!!IT is now only 25,000 points per entry so FOLD ON!!!!!!


This part of the contest has a special drawing for an I7 computer system.

LG Blueray drive with DVD writing capability

Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme CPU cooler with 2 120 CFM 120mm fans in Push-pull configuration
Antec Twelve Hundred Case
1x 250mm Top blowhole fan.
6x 120mm Blue LED fans (each with it's own adjustable speed control)
2x 120mm HIGH SPEED (120 CFM) (both rigged with it's own speed control and setup in a push-pull configuration with the TRUE)
The computer does not come with any hard drives or software.


Who is eligible...

0. ANY NEW MEMBERS that have joined in the last month

OR RECRUITING MEMBERS THAT WANT CREDIT FOR THIS CONTEST MUST SIGN UP USING THE FORMAT IN THE NEXT POST!

1. Any new member that folds for Team32 and produces 25,000 points before the end of the contest period.
1A. You can get additional entries for each additional 25,000 points that you fold.

2. If you are a current Team32 member and you convince a new member to sign up, You and that new member will each get a chance at the I7 Prize.
2A. Any additional entries your new recruit earns will earn you and additional entry.

3. New recruits may recruit new people too. Again 25,000 points need to be folded by the recruitee for the recruitee and recruiter to get the contest entry.

4. X folders (retired folders) that come out of retirement for the contest need to mention so in the sign up thread.

(A new member is defined as a member that has joined and just started folding for team32 within the last month.)

In a nutshell, how the contest works.

New members (joined within the last month) will receive chances to win the I7 system for every 25,000 points folded.

If you are not a new member, you can still gain chances to win by recruiting new members. Each time a new member that you recruited earns a contest entry, you do as well ;)


Contest restrictions...

The I7 prize will not be made available unless we have gained at least 300 new folding members. (this should not be much of a challenge as the contest will be posted on most deal sites and forums with cyberdeals section), however I would really like to see our T32 breathern stick together and defend 3rd place. with the addition of the 300 new folders it will be made a requirement that on the final day of the contest (may 4th) that there be at least 875 active folders (according to Kakao Stats) in order for the I7 computer to be available for the contest drawing.

If the required number of new members or active members are not met by the contest deadline then all I7 entries will be counted as 3 regular contest entries towards the other contest prizes (GTX295, PS3). In addition, if the number of contest entries are not met for the i7 to be given away then 2 consolation prizes will be added to the drawing pool. AN EVGA GTX 260 216 core GPU and a Gigabyte X58-UD3R motherboard (currently installed in the i7 system).


Because this part of the contest is being extended out nearly an additional 2 months, we will be unable to include the drawing of the GTX 295 or PS3 if the contest requirements are not met, because of this I have again lowered the requirements of new members from 375 to 300. If at the contest ending, the contest requirements have not been met then we still have a GTX 260 and the x58 motherboard to give away.



RULES:

1. You must be a member of OCFourms in order to sign up for the prize.
2. The signup format in the next post needs to be followed or your signup will not count.
3. You must fold at least 25,000 points in order to be eligible for an entry.
4. If the prize requirements are not met by the end of the contest, then the number of entries will be tripled for each person and go towards winning the other contest prizes.
3. You must have at least one active processor folding during the end of the competition (may 4th)
4. The requirements my be lessened a bit as we get closer to the end of the contest period such that people that join up late may still have a shot at winning, however it will not be let up more than say 20-30% (requirements have been halved already)
5. The I7 Computer has been previously owned for 3 months, it works great. Pictures of the prize are posted on the contest website.
6. The computer will come fully assembled.
7. Anyone outside the US or canada will be responsible for the shipping charges, taxes and fees.
8. The contest administration reserves the right to deny the prize to anyone found cheating in this contest. The definition is being left open here for the time being.
9. NO EUE's Excessive workunits that terminate early due to unstable machine problems. Excessive EUE's will not be tolerated. If you are notified that you have excessive EUE's and you fix the problem then there will be no problem.
10. User Stats will be tracked weekly and posted in post#3.
11. New members or Folders that have come out of retirement must fold at least 1 work unit during the contest period and have at least 1 active processor during the last week of the contest in order to be counted toward the minimum contest requirements for giving away the i7 system.

I Have just HALVED ALL REQUIREMENTS!!!

Now you only need 50,000 PPD to receive an entry. (each additional 50,000 PPD will earn you additional entries remember).

Also the Minimum number of New folders has been lowered from 1500 to 750 so it will be much easier to hit the minimum required number of new members mark. (however you will still need to do some recruiting in order to hit 750).


Guys, If you joined more than a month ago you are not eligible unless you are coming out of retirement. If you want to get some entries to enter for an I7 system, Go find some new members and get them to join. You get credit for whatever the people you recruit do ;)

Just to be clear, I am technically an ex-folder (joined in 2004 or something) but had a really crappy computer and after folding I think 2 WUs and getting only 27 points, I sheepishly got frustrated and stopped :) I just recently started up again on 3.31.2009 after building a new computer but kept the same name (started before I had heard of the contest!)

You can verify this by looking at my total point count (27,694 as of this writing) and adding up the last 2 weeks (20,055 and 7,612 = 27,667, which leaves the 27 points that I had before 3/31/09). Hopefully this counts as being in the spirit of a new folder, but even if it doesn't, I'm still happy to fold for Team32 to try to keep MPC at bay!

You should have no problem. Your video card alone should produce over 4K ppd. That would only take 13 days to get the 50K you need.

You can use all your cpu cores with the smp client by adding the "-smp" argument when you start your client.

Example:

./fah6 -smp -verbosity 9

To add your user name and team # use -config initially(remove later).

Just to give you an update, I have collected all of the data so far and it looks like we now have

39 new recruits so far

to make the contest simpler to enter I have halved all of the requirements!!!!

Harlam is going to plug all of the data into his stat tracking program and I should have some nice numbers to post sometime tomorrow.

For best PPD the ideal route is running SMP in a Linux VM - there are instructions in the install sticky. Alternatively, run the native Windows SMP client (which is a bit easier).

Yea, all you have to do is set the team to 32.

Are you running the SMP client, or the GPU client? I would run the GPU client, it'll probably get more points than the SMP right now.

No you can't. Your card is probably perfectly fine. I'm not sure anybody can run the viewer for that long without freezing the GPU. For me it was much less. Sometimes I would accidentally open it and it'd freeze the GPU before I could close it out :(. I'm really not sure why the viewer isn't disabled for the GPU client.

P.S. I tried this YEARS ago for like a day or 2 on my girlfriend's PC, but I never joined the team or anything for real... just wanted to check it out. Just checked up username g0dM@n and it comes up as "g0dM" and like 3700 pts.

I'm assuming I'm considered "new" b/c I never truly folded before. I'm using the new name of "godman114" since "g0dM@n" comes out as "g0dM" :(

I am folding on my HTPC. WinXP Pro SP3, BE-2350 @ 2.8ghz. I installed the systray version. How come it's only running on one core... if I display the F@hviewer, then it runs on both cores since it becomes 2 diff processes.

I'm trying to figure out the SMP right now to get this to run on both cores so I can set and forget... also want to put it in the startup.
What's this DEINO version vs MPICH version? I'm lazy and don't want to read for hours and hours to figure this out. I just want a set it and forget it on my HTPC since it's on 24/7 anyway.

its not "he/she who folds the most wins"; its "get x number of points and get an entry in to the raffle". more entries gives you a better chance to win, but doesn't necessarily mean #1 folder gets the new rig.

Designing a FaH competition is a bit difficult.

(1) If you base it purely off who folds most, the high hitters will move in and no-one else has a chance.

(2) If you base it off the most CPUs folding you have the above problem plus some very easy ways to cheat.

(3) If you bias it too much to the vast majority of members who only have 1-2 machines folding, there is no incentive to ramp up production and you discourage the big farmers. Or, the latter simply break the farm up across several usernames.

(4) The 'entries to a raffle' system works best because although some fine tuning is required it means everyone has a chance.

It's not perfect by any means but its otherwise very difficult to make the competition fair. The bottom line is that everyone has *a* chance. Its still better odds than the lottery :)

It's up to you if you want to join in, no-one is going to press gang anyone into entering but I thought I'd better point out how difficult it is to make these things fair without shooting yourself in the foot or having cheats.

I am seriously looking at a way to extend the contest until the required number is met but the chimp challenge is kinda in the way. I have no way possible to track stats if everybody is folding under the same name, and I really really want us to win this year. I am thinking about freezing the contest for the duration of the chimp challenge. (have a moderator lock the thread) Then when the chimp challenge is over, resuming the contest until somebody wins... Sound fair? Contest parts 1-3 will still end on may 4th. Noon pacific time.

guys let me know what you think about this, I want to give the i7 system away but it did cost me about a grand so I think I will allow some more time for you guys to earn it ;)


Also I will look at doing some sort of video for the drawing, I got's a crappy 1.3Megapixel webcam So I should be able to come up with something. (no I will not pull a tiger direct and waste 3 hours of your time).

I wish I could have used the special character, but oh well!!

Well, June 30th is now past.

Looks like the contest is now over. Which I'm actually kinda happy about. With it getting warmer outside, My room was getting quite hot with the PC and my PS3 folding. Many times, I had to stop my GPU's from folding, because they would get too hot.

though, the PS3 ran pretty much whenever I wasn't playing it.
