Which would be better for overclocking slot one or socket 370...

i ask this because i have pIII 733 that is a socket 370 but im using it on a converter card in a slot one bord...

would it give me a better overclock if i switched to a 370 board or does it make a diffrence...

i have a good quality converter that i can set the voltage to over 2.5volts (with jumpers) the board only does 1.95...

so far the highest oc i can get is 875mhz....:)

Back in the old day (cough cough), people fretted over the possibility of timing issues with slocket converters leading to lower overclocks. In my experience, however (with an Abit ST6, a BF6, and a Shuttle (can't remember the name) which are socket, slot, and slot, respectively), I was able to hit the same approximate approximate 1 gig mark (give or take 9 MHz due to variances in the settings, the BF6 typically a little bit faster than the bios selected FSB) with both my 633 and 566.

A higher quality motherboard and/or better memory might be in order. After all, your chips is running 5.5 x 133 to get 733, and ~160 MHz to hit that 875 mark. Also, your PCI devices are most likely pushing it at 40 MHz... Make sure your other devices can handle these high speeds... Honestly, I'm scared to run my devices over 37.5 MHz...

Which slot board are you using? I mean Mobo, not the converter.

I agree, 40 on the PCI bus is just "asking" for trouble.

I am very content to have my P3-733 on an Asus S370DL slotket running at 148FSB. Granted that puts the PCI bus at 37Mhz, but I havent had any "burps" out of the system yet.

Nothing worse than having your Hard Drive get corrupted, let alone anything else on the bus.

Im running a asus p3v4x jumper free pc-133 agp/4X board

gefoce 265 32meg DDR 4X agp video
soundblaster live (pci)
acer 10/100 nic (pci)
128/128/128 megs pc-133 ram ECC
2 ata 100 HDD total 60gigs ( runing at 66 cause of the board)
48X cd-rom and a 8/4/32 burner
350 watt PS

i think thats it...

just a bit more info..... i think the ram may be holding me back
what do ya think

I think 875MHz is pretty good for your CPU since it is running at 159FSB. It may be the RAM that holding you back. But, in most of the time, the Mobo may be your problem. Running at almost 40 PCI is tough. Or, you can go and get some real good Mobo, like ST6 or GA-6OXET may help you a lot.

Yeah, I'm at 37 pci now and am doing just fine. I have had major problems higher than that with corruption. I'd love to hit that 1gig mark but I think I've pushed it as far as I can.

with the P3V4X it is generally helpful at higher fsbs to have a heatsink on the clock generator and there are articles on this on the front page......also better northbridge cooling may be in order....
