hi'

I recentrly changed mobo for an Asus P5Q3, loaded with 6gb ram OCZ platinium pc3 12800.
I first run it at stock, and a little time after I began to push it a bit, up to 2.7, 300x9, stock vcore volt and the rest on auto.
VID of cpu is 1.3250
then tried a 3ghz with 333x9 @ 1.3250v, ram 7.6.6.20 @ 1.80v, fsb term : 1.28v
and NB at : 1.38v, leaving the SB alone as well as all the cpu ppl and gtl,
tunred off, all cpu spec such as mentionned for oc.
turned off load line calibration.

the system is satble, but on cold boot, it starts1/2 and restart for good,
what could it be?

and what could I do to get it even faster that what it is today?

any help very welcome :)

try running the ram at the manufacturer requested voltage and increasing VID on the chip. You're way on the low end right now and whilst its prime stable cold booting is probably one of the more stressful cpu events you have.

If you leave everything in auto but vcore does it boot , does it happen again?

hi'
l left all on auto except vcore, and reboot, everything is fine!
but ... not as fast boot ..

i686

ps, folling Sunbur advice I'll give the vcore a bit more and try ram spec volt ...
I'll tell!

thanks

ok,
so, I gave a notch more on vcore, 1.35v (bios), and ram at 1.80v, @1.90v no boot! (left ram spec as low as possible 7.7.7.21)
fsb term 1.30 and NB : 1.40
fast boot and so far stable ...

Hi,
your RAM should take this OC like nothing.
I would put everytinh un AUTO but vcore, then using pC PRobe can you enable all vlotages and take a screen shot???

Asus mobo in auto, some times make and excellent job, sometime just overvolts stuff. Also, it is interesting to know what vram in assigning in auto.

7.7.7.21 is a bab joke, can you post the exact model and brand of your ram so we can check it ? /edit : I just saw it OCZ Platinium DDR3 1600

also, I would try to run 1:1 ratio, qith the ram, so you get the better bandwith bet. cpu/ram. Your ram should take this no prob

Specifications
1600MHz DDR3
CL 7-7-7-20 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
Available in 2GB dual channel kits
Unbuffered
Platinum Z3 XTC Heatspreader*
Lifetime Warranty
1.9Volts
240 Pin DIMM

Special Features
1.95V EVP**

I would DOWNCLOCK RAM so you get 1:1 with FSB. Also, you should be running the RAM at least in 1.9v -- set vram in auto and check what value is assigned, i do not think that vram in 1.9 caused you could not boot

alright, I'll try this ;)
thanks

hi'

well, I changes vcore to 1.3440v and ram on voltage auto.
I tried to run 1:1, but ram runs à 667mhz :( not as fast as 1333 ;)
anyway, I left ram voltage on auto.
did a little prime, and nothing to say, stable.

I'll keep on trying to get this fsb as high as possible

wait a minute, in what FSB value are you right now?
/edit
Also what is your multiplier and rated FSB right now??
using pc probe, waht value you get in vram (with the mobo in vram auto)??

alright, fsb : 333.9 x 9 à 1.3440v
rated fsb : 1335.8
ram @ 1333mhz volt auto .. no way to see which voltage is applied.
I downloaded the latest pcprobe, but no luck, the vram isn't here.

i686

edit; my ram is composed of both OCZ platinium pc3 1600 cl7
with 2 x 2gb + 2 x 1gb, same clock and voltage, same specs.
just different amount og mhz p/kit

hmmmm....

when you open dram speed opctions on mobo, what options does it give to you??
Can you run cpu-z and take a shot at the memory tab with your current settings
having >2 sticks of ram, can be tricky. I have 4x2GB

DDR Speed Memory clock Cycle time FSB Bus clock Module name Peak transfer rate
DDR3-800 100 MHz 10 ns 400 MHz PC3-6400 6400 MB/s
DDR3-1066 133 MHz 7.5 ns 533 MHz PC3-8500 8533 MB/s
DDR3-1333 166 MHz 6 ns 667 MHz PC3-10600 10667 MB/s
DDR3-1600 200 MHz 5 ns 800 MHz PC3-12800 12800 MB/s

Since you are at 333x9 FSB you are WAY below your RAM capabilities.
You can allways manually set RAM speed to 666MHz or 800Mhz, to get a lower divider, but i would go to 400x9 FSB 3.6GHz that is a pretty acceptable number. Then, you can set speed for RAM at 800 MHz (1:1) or just leave it stock. You need to find out what is better for you, since you will get different CAS and tRD values........ some ppl would say to you that do not waste time on this :). RAM is not going to stop you from OCing :)

Just push vcore to 1.42xx in mobo and test with prime95. If you get rounding errors you need more vcore.

Also, you need to check FSBT(VTT) and NB voltage. Asus auto tends to over-volt NB in auto (1.61!!!!), I would top it using 1.51v in mobo. With FSBT it makes a better job, but I would also try to top it in 1.4 ib bios. Then you can try to lower them.

I would not try to go any further that 3.6GHz for daily use; only if you are sure that your cpu and mobo compontents are really well cooled.

hi'

thanks a lot for all recommandations ;)
that's cool

well, in fact I can't get the vram in pc probe
but, cpu runs fine @1.35v bios, which gives 1.33 in cpuz
ram @1:2 fsb strap to NB @333
ram @ 1333 volt auto
NB and FSB Term on auto

ram on cpuz say : 667 @ 7.7.7.21 (manual) and for spd 1.5v??
this can't be since the sticks I have are written on 1.9v!
and OCZ tells same 1.90v !
doesn't matter ;)

I was thinking that I could try first a 8 x 400=3.2ghz and this will makemy ram work on 1:1 @800 ... I'll say what's up with this

i686

Ddr3 need less volts than ddr2
But cpuz i think it does not give the actual value
Good luck with your 400x8 test.
;)
/edit
To get 1 on 1 you need to MANUALLY set 800 in the mobo in the ram specs

hi'
so, got 3.2ghz with 1.38vcore and ram @1427
fsb trem 1.30 and NB @1.42
so far stable ran prime 4hrs
