Just a warning to others last night i decided to put arctic silver epoxy mixed with arctic silver thermal paste on my ramsinks. I must have put too much and it must have touched the circuits of the ram and shorted out. I dont know what happens to the card when this is done but now my card shows a scrambled picture and no matter what i do to clean it up it still shows a scrambled picture.

I put an older savage 4 card in and it works fine. I thought i messed the motherboard up too but i didnt. If anyone can tell me if this card is still salvagable I would be grateful and how to fix it.

129 dollars down the drain. Oh well.

As someone who has killed 3 socket A processors, and a TNT-2 PCI video card in the last 3 months, I feel your pain! I read the post about improving your video quality on GF-2 and 3 cards by clipping the capacitors, but I'm just plain too scared to try it!
Sorry for your loss.

Thanks Repo man. I guess it just gave me an excuse to buy a Geforce 3Ti 200 and to be more careful with Arctic Silver Epoxy. Expensive lesson though.

The only thing is I gotta wait on the Geforce 3 now.

You could try cleaning the card with alcohol or maybe even acetone to remove any leftovers of your mixture paste.

eh?

Well I cleaned everything off Slim made sure no contacts touched each other but i think its a memory problem now. I will keep the card and see what I can do with it but my hopes are not high.

Thanks everyone for all the help.

Why not a Radeon 8500? I had a GF3 prior to it, not a Ti version, and the Radeon seem to have slightly better picture quality.

Henry.

Well Henry I was thinking of the Radeon 8500 but the price was 240 and the Geforce 3Ti 200 was 160. I dont wanna get too crazy and I know more about the Nvidia chipsets but I might get one later. Who knows.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune :(

Arctic Alumina Adhesive (sold Here (http://www.svcompucycle.com/araltherad.html) for $6.45 shipped is non capacitive and shouldn't cause the the same headaches as it's brother Arctic Silver Adhesive.

ps Fuzzy, Didn't your card have a piece fall off as opposed to a Arctic Silver malfunction?

also its always good to tape off the memory leads be4 u put the ac2 on, so that way if u put too much on, it just goes on the tape... so u peal the tape off then then card wont get fryed!
thats what i did... altho i put wayyyyyyyy to much on... im very lucky
