Has anyone heard about the Lexmark X73 or the X83. If so how good are they and will they work under Windows XP.

I have had major problems with Lexmark support. From what I have seen the printers are pretty good, but you are in trouble if they break.
My favorites are Canon and Epson. Canon usually has a really good basic printer for under $80. Sometimes they have rebates that take the cost under $50. Their support is good as well.

The reason I ask is my mother wants a Scanner/Printer combo.

well i dunno, but ive always liked HP scanners/printers... i think they make some of the best ones... they may sound like a crapy company, but i think there scanners/printers are good quailty...

The X73 came free along with the lexmark scanner with the Earthlink account a buddy signed up for... they are horrid.
The scanner doesn't even need it's own power supply, and the printer, at best quality, is what my HP was back in the 600 series was on normal.
Is price the main issue? Because if it isn't TOO overly important, get your self a good HP combo.... they run flawless and are cheap to maintain.
its all good...

dude, don't buy lexmark, they SUCK i currently have 3 of their printers piled up in my basement, i am refusing to use them the z51, z31 and another one the dpi was alright, but the cartragieds are way overpriced and they are a real pain in the ass when i go to use my cd burner that backpacks onto the printer port
go for Canon, that is what i have now, S450, it works great and prints really fast, which is what i need, i don't print that much stuff in color
i sold that lexmark at best buy when i worked there
its a piece of crap. My personal favorite is the Cannon printers.
the kind that take individual ink, that way when you run out of one color, the whole cartridge doesn't have to be replaced, just a specific color for about 11 bucks
by the way, Cannon printers come with full ink from factory
Hp and Lexmark do not, so there are some added cost to those right from the start

As far as I know price means nothing. They want something that was (excuse me for what I'm about to say I'm a redneck ) made to run. Right now the have a Compaq printer, but since they upgraded to Windows XP it don't work. My step-father can't wait for new XP drivers to come out either.
